Why a soft cover vs hard?

 

Just as a general answer, really depends on use. The hard covers of course offer a much better level of security but they're also ~triple the cost.
If you need to keep things covered, dust free and dry the soft covers are a great option.

Same one I have. Is it good: sure, depends on what you'd consider good though.

It worked perfectly fine when I was driving on road only, but offroad since it's an open box the filter needs to be cleaned more frequently (just an inconvenience more than anything). Being an open box, it's sourcing air from the engine bay which means it's a "warm air intake". It does make cool sounds, and my butt dyno says the throttle response is better, and filter maintenance is very easy. Overall I am happy with it. I have since changed from the K&N oiled type filter to an AEM dry filter.

If you do a fair amount of offroad I would encourage you to look into a closed box type CAI (aFe or Volant for example).
