I heard the 2019 4runner is getting a big change possibly, they are getting rid of the 4.0 and the 5 speed trans to put the 3rd gen Tacoma powertrain in it and the interior could look a little like the Tacoma, has anyone heard any info on the new 4runner? I like the way the off road one looks now and I am afraid they are going to make it look too much like a lexus suv.any thoughts?

That would be a big downgrade on the engine if true, but I can see Toyota doing it to meet tighter CAFE numbers - the 3.5 gives the same power level on paper with better mileage on paper.

Rumors are they might put the V8 power plant in it, which would be nice.

I saw somewhere the Lexus GX may end up discontinued which to me gives a strong argument to why the next gen 4Runner may be available with a V8.
However, I could see a V8 T4R cutting into the Sequoia's already small sales so I doubt it would happen...

Plus mpg's and other sciencey type stuffs would say no to a V8

I can only imagine the 6th gen 4Runner will then top the 3rd gen Tacoma interior. They’ve been stepping it up interior wise between the 2.

The problem next gen vehicles also face is this lengthening of the front end. Like every subsequent gen is Pinocchio making another lie or something.

The 4 runner already weighs more.. would be bad to just downsize the power and powertrain

For that I’m grateful. My wife’s T4R feels nice and planted on the road, where as my 15 Taco got blown all over the road

I like the look it has now and I hope it doesn't look to futuristic and I hope they still have scoops on the trd off road too.

    Too few to list.
My sister just paid off her 2010 4runner and wants to get a new one but wants to wait a year to see if the 4runner would be redesigned. I told her if so, it might likely come with a new drivetrain. If it is the 3.5 and the 6speed auto, she better buy the current gen.

Do you need new? If not, then no pain in waiting and they will only get cheaper if you like the fifth gen over it.

wait until jan-2018 when they announce the new line-up and if they announce the 6th 4runner or extend the current gen

that wont happen since that interferes with the gx model and they haven't announce IF they discontinue the gx line.

Family just got a 2018 4Runner and hot damn is it badass. Tried and true 4.0, 5 speed auto, factory hitch on all models, I'm in love with it. I'm worried about the next gen, whenever that may be.

Fortuner still uses 1GR-FE with the dual VVT-i and 6 speed tranny. That would be a much better drivetrain minus the tranny mapping.
