ok, should have said the VAST MAJORITY of 285's made are E load. You are better off finding the rare C or D load rating for a 285 in a 17". Do not recall there being any available in a 16".

Ha! You too, huh? Curious why you have to trim? Stock wheels? I am now on 285/75R16 Cooper STT Pro’s. They are 33” even and I clear fine. Your BFG’s are 32.8 and you have to trim? Are you on stock suspension?

I agree I noticed no difference in truck acceleration between 265’s and 285’s, but my truck DOES ride and LOOK better.

I had Cooper STT Pro 265’s and switched to 285’s. My wheels are 0 offset which sets them directly in the fender well. I touch no where. I’m completely clear even at full lock.

I say have fun. You really want 285's, but your logical side is trying talk you out of it. You probably won't be happy with 265s until you run 285s once. Just be aware that 285s require some work.

I went through this on my 1st gen double cab. Went with 285s, trimmed the shit out of fender wells, cranked up the lift, etc. They looked great and better ground clearence. Loved the truck with the 285's. However, this came with power loss, stopping distance/brake wear, transmission wear, fuel economy hit, and a harsher ride (load range e). I never got around to regearing or changing to tundra brakes and got tired of the negatives so switched to 265/75s (load range c)when time for new tires. Figured I had enough fun. With 265s it was like having a new truck. Much happier and still looked good with lift, but still glad I got the 285 urge out.

I need to trim because i rub when fully stuffed and locked. I dont rub just driving streets. I got the 285's for offroading. Before then I ran into a clearance issue on the trail and that half inch was all I needed. I got the tires for my practical use. Just that initial phase of "Wear and tear" held me back but you just gotta try and take the info you get in the forums and take it like a grain of salt. I drive a prius to work and the truck stays home. I get to play with the Toy on the weekends where it belongs offroad so 285's all the way for now!

I have good room now for OR. I had -6 offset wheels and was about to get a CMC, but went with a 0 offset wheel and that prevented the CMC. I wasn’t happy about having to cut on a truck that is not even 2 months old.

Nice, yea some people claim no rubbing. I have heard it before so there are different factors in play. A friend of mine from work says he does not rub with 285's. That was true for the most part of the trail but when we got to a section where he was fully stuffed on the driver side and had to reverse you hear the rubbing. I didnt say shit but a week later he made some adjustments and i saw he got a cmc chop done. Thats awesome if you dont rub. Different tires and side walls play a factor too.

You can run 285s completely stock without rubbing. It all depends on your wheel specs.

My transmission felt better with the 33's actually. Never have an issue gear hunting and I live in a hilly area. YMMV though. The only thing I noticed was a slight mpg loss going from 255/85/16s to 285/70/17s.

285s are available in C load rating. I'm running 285 nitto ridge grapplers in C load. Even if you did go to E load, it doesn't necessarily gain any weight. Nitto ridge grappler C and E load tires are the exact same weight.

    285s or bust!
