While this is a significant halogen upgrade, HIDs with projector retros will put out greater output.

 

Any sources for the ceramic bulb connectors?? Ive had a the Upgraded Headlight harness from Painless Wiring for 3 vehicles now, but the bulb connections are plastic.

 

They are readily available online, I don’t have any specific recommendations. Is your harness heavy duty 12 gauge wiring? If so I’d be cautious of buying the mini adapter “harnesses” that plug into your H4/9003 socket on one end and have a ceramic connector on the other, as those almost always have thinner gauge wire. You could purchase a ceramic connector and swap the end of your harness yourself, or possibly contact Headlight Services or Rallylights to see about making a 12 gauge adapter for you.

 

Ordered the harness and some Osram bulbs. Tired of not being able to see well enough. Hope they ship fast. Merry xmass to me.

 

Just got my 4 bulbs took about 2 weeks for them to come

 

Oh well, was hoping I'd have it to install while I'm off next week. Sounds like I won't. Second guessing myself and should have ordered two sets of 100/80 @ $12 each instead of 1 set of 85/80 for $20. Soon as one burns out I'll order 3 or 4 sets and stock pile, and keep a set in the truck.

 

I sometimes second guess running the 100/90w as I rarely ever use high beam, and the 85/80w have a slightly brighter low beam.

 

Why does it work out like that? I don't really understand bulbs. How come the 85's have more low beam output?

 

I’ve purchased the upper lever Osrams bulbs that are a tad brighter than stock before but you run the stock harness.

I’m really interested in getting the RallyLights harness and those 85/80 bulbs for my 2015.

I appreciate everyones input and keep the info coming.

Great question to which I don’t have exact specifics other than the 85/80w is a better designed more efficient bulb. The price point reflects that. The 85/80w is Xenon gas filled whereas the 100/90w is not. The 100/90w is achieves its numbers through simpler tech and more power, which is why it is cheaper. I bet the 85/80 runs slightly cooler too. However when running the stand-alone harness the extra 10-15w is really a non-issue as the relays and wiring can handle far more. Where things start to go downhill quickly is bulb life. Higher wattage bulbs quickly drop off in bulb life. The 85/80w has 200hr high and 200hr low. The 100/90w have 200hr low but the high beam drops to 100hrs (IIRC). However the vast majority of driving is low beam, so the loss of high beam life is really a non-issue in this case. While shorter bulb life is the trade off of high wattage bulbs, I’d still like to not be changing bulbs all the time. The reason I recommend these 2 bulbs specifically is they have the longest low beam life at 200hrs for their output from a reputable manufacture. No other bulbs I’m aware of produce the same or better output with an equivalent lifespan.

Good find. Those are listed as German, but be wary of the Chinese version when shopping as they are rampant online.

 

So your telling me, I got the Model "T" of light bulbs? haha

I'll use what I have (on the way), then when they run out, I'll order the 85w's.

On another note, this is the reply I got from Mike over at Headlight Services, about the relays.

"Thank you for your compliments.
I can sell you a spare relay though in all the time selling harnesses, I have not had any requests for replacement of a failed relay. I do use high-quality Bosch/Tyco relays.
Just a suggestion, if your low-beam relay goes bad, switch it with the high-beam one and you will at least have low-beams while you get a replacement."

Which brings me to another question, do you know which relay is for the high beam?

I would not be concerned about a relay failure running a quality harness. My first one was transferred through 3 trucks over many years without issue.

You only have 2 relays on the harness. If in the unlikely situation the low beam goes bad, just swap them.

 

So if I understand correctly, there is one relay for each light right? Not one for High beam and one for low beam?

 

Should be one relay for each circuit, low beam and high beam separate...

Yep, 1 relay for low beams, 1 relay for high beams.

 

Got my new bulbs in today, wasn't a flamethrower coming out my lights like I hoped for. haha

However the extra power is exactly what I wanted. Looks great.

Somehow managed to crack one of the ceramic plugs, but still works okay.

 

Cracked a plug? I’ve not had that happen. Which harness did you use? The bulbs can be challenging to get into the plug for the first time, but are easier subsequent times.
