No offence, but is this whole ‘TRD’ thing stupid?

Ok here is a legit question: why was the (now discontinued) Tacoma X-runner not a TRD model? Like this thing actually had a modified and braced chassis, additional rear sway bar, special shocks etc. If anything Tacoma was ever “race worthy”, or part of “racing development”, it was the X Runner.

I think TRD is to the Taco and and Tundy what Z71 is to Chevy and GMC trucks...

And what FX4 is to Ford trucks...

All it does is give you upgraded suspension, underbody shields, and a limited-slip or locking rear diff...

And apparently Silverados with the Z71 package hold their resale value better than regular 4x4 Silverados...

S-Runners too! I would love to have either!

S-Runners were so hard to find back in the day that when my uncle bought one in 2002, he had to special order it!

Well at least I got to enjoy my TRD license plate frame and lanyard for 10 days until I stumbled upon this thread

On another note, I couldn't help but notice you have the JBL system in your truck. What do you think of it?

Good idea! Wise move to lighten up your TRD rig as much as possible before Nurburgring.

I love it, I didn't want to mess around with aftermarket sound in a brand new truck so I went with the JBL
Sounds good and hits pretty good

Lot of R&D went into that system for sure, I'm sure they worked out the kinks prerunning in Baja

I have a base model 2nd gen 5-lug RC, so the factory system had absolutely no balls. I finally got fed up with the lackluster sound system and bought a Pioneer system in 2013, which I paid a friend to install. Now, I've got a touch-screen head unit with GPS navigation and a backup camera!

My $500 sound system in my $15,000 truck destroys the factory Bose system in my friend's $75,000 Audi Q7!

My dad once had a 2003 Honda S2000. One could not take a speed bump or a pothole in that thing without the factory CD player skipping!

Maybe car stereos, even those destined for use in sports cars, should be torture-tested in Baja off-road trucks?!?!

I'm not saying its the best system Ive ever heard, but it works for me.
I'm not going around bumping hip hop and being loud anymore like I did when I was younger
And I didn't have to pay a guy to mess with the wires on my brand new truck
