Need Gun Advice

You need two guns!!! One .22 LR and one Bad Ass Glock!!! The .22 so you can shoot as much as you want and a BIG cal. for self defense! you don't want a gun you cant aford to shoot a lot!!! So save some $$$ so you can have lots & lots of fun!!!! so think about it!! Good luck

 

If you are looking for small, ultra portable, not super expensive 9mm then I would say a Ruger SR9c or KelTec PF-9 or P-11. All are small enough to put in your pocket. I have owned the Keltec P-11 and it handles pretty well.

Then again I am a chick so who would want to take my advice on a gun.. right?

 

Glock 27, light compact and a .40 so still has stopping power. I have one and love it. I use it to carry when backpacking for bear and mounting lions so it small and light wieght enough to pack

 

Glock do not need ANY lube to function. It is actually recommended not to apply any wet lubricant to the firearms. A graphite paste or gel is the only thing that is recommended. When they come from the factory they have no lube. Just a small amount of copper in a few key places for break in. I carry a Glock 27 for personal protection. A 1911 in the nightstand, a revolver in the bathroom, ...you get the picture. Stay away from highpoint, very unreliable.

 

Sometimes I wish tx wasnt so big, there are tons of members on here from TX that I will probably never meet. Even though we are in the same state we could be anywhere from 2-12 hours away!

I was gonna let you shoot my xd40 but your all the way in houston, 6 hour drive from here...

this is true, you should go down and get yourself a finger scan gun safe if you have kids in the house no matter what you go with. they are fairly cheap, around 200 or so.

 

Or just show your kids some nice videos of kids getting their heads blown off by playing with Daddy's gun. I am sure that would be more effective.

Glocks are great guns I own 2 of them but I much rather shoot my Hk P30 or Sig P220, Sig P226.

 

Does no one like Beretta? I love my PX4 storm. But anyway, going with the trend here... My XD9 is an outstanding firearm. Very much recommend. 380s are nice but the ammo is pricey. If money wasn't an issue, you can't go wrong with 1911 from S.A. or Kimber. Micro/compact of course!

 

yesterday i went to the gun store and looked at this one ... its a Ruger SR9c 9mm ... i can get it for $450 new. What do you guys think about this gun ? i am planning to go to the shooting range next week and try some others ... About the glock the guy told me the same thing that if i have kids its not safe ...

 

I saw that little SR9c in one of my guns and ammo mags and it looks pretty cool.

A Glock is no more or less safe than any other gun. If you load it, point it at a person and pull hte trigger it will shoot that person... if you dont, it wont. The same applies to revolvers and many other handguns. The only reason to get a gun with a safety is to have access to an excellent single stage trigger like in a 1911, outside that its just something else to get you killed if you need the handgun. Keep your pistol locked away.

Advantage Arms makes a nice .22 kit for a Glock. Id be looking for a Glock 19. 9mm is cheap but nothing is as cheap for practice as .22lr and you can get used to the same trigger and grip with a .22 upper in the future. Almost all handguns have a 1911 angled grips, the Glock has a steep Luger styled grip angle. People usually shoot Glocks or anything and everything else. Everyone in my police depatment loves Glocks that has them. I cant shoot them as I grew up on 1911 grip angles (Browning Hi Power, 1911, HK USP, Sig). I have a Sig P226 as my duty handgun which I would never trade for a Glock but I do love the low cost and reliability of Glocks. I previously had an XD-9 but I found any polymer pistol other than Glock to have too much muzzle rise for my liking (the steep grip angle of the Glock helps control muzzle rise). I tend to point Glocks high because of the grip angle and have to force the front sight down when I present it. If you can start fresh on a Glock you will always have effective, reliable, inexpensive hanguns available.

No HiPoint, Ruger P series, Kel Tec, etc. is a substitiute for a Glock. The only inexpensive pistols Id consider with polymer frames are the Glock, XD, and Sig 2022. Other than that the CHEAPEST pistol that is reliable is the CZ75 series. Most are all steel and heavy but reliable. They are a bit crude compared to polymer guns but cost $300-400 instead of $400-550. Also the cheapest place to buy a gun IMO is at a local gun show... One or two dealers in your area will have spectacular prices so dont just buy form the first dealer you see as prices will vary by $100+ from table to table. Do NOT buy from a local gun sore if you care about saving money... you will trow away $50-$150 on an handgun doing that. Bachman Pawn usually has good prices here and a couple others. I have purchased half my handguns from Bachman Pawn. They are at 75% of Houston Gunshows. Noone beats their Glock prices and few their Sig prices.

You have, in my opinion, 4 classes of handguns... full sized duty guns, compact duty guns, sub compacts and pocket pistols. Do you want a handgun to conceal or just carryin in your car and in your nightstand? You can car carry without a permit but not carry on your person. I use a full sized duty pisotl for home and car. For concealed I want the smallest possible for pocket carry and the best trigger (still sucks) and smallest size and weight is the KelTec P3AT. Several guys in my deptment use those for back up and off duty guns. The Ruger look alike to the P3AT has too far long of a trigger pull IMO. Airweight snubby .38s hurt your hand after 5 rounds. They are also too fat and fall into the subcompact size category where the magazine variants are slimmer and hold far more ammo.

Another of my personl preferences in guns is those which have good CTC options (Crimson Trace grip lasers) The Sig 2022 is EXCELLENT. The Glock versions SUCKS. The Kelt Tek P3AT is EXCELENT. I have had all kinds of guns and found subcompacts to be too large for pocket carry... you need to use a propper holster and if I have to use a propper holster I want a compact or full sized gun. My pinky hangs off any sub compact but at least they fit in my pocket. CTC Lasers are easily $100 cheaper online than the local gunshow guy in Houston. Use his booth only to try the laser grips.

For any full sized gun consider a flash light. The best is the Surefire X300. If you want to go cheaper go Streamlight. A flash light on your hand gun is probably the #1 accessory you can have for your firearm. Consider HOLSTER selection too. Id not get ANYTHING that I could not get a Safariland holster that accomidates the gun and light and I for that you want both the SLS and ALS systems. Dont try to cheap out with anything on Holsters... if its not a concleaed rig and its for home or car or training go Safariland. The SLS ALS combo allows the gun to lock in the holster with or without the flashlight instead of requiring the flash light to be on the gun.

 

Get a Taurus PT111 Pro. 9mm, 12 round mags, accurate, reliable, and should cost $400-$410. That leaves you enough money to buy a holster and ~300 rounds of 9mm.
