anyone know where this plastic thing clips into? Its on the driver side just under the exhaust manifold. Its a '95. This is the only pic I have from before we pulled it.

So... while I was doing a whole laundry list of shit to the truck this weekend we realized something was amiss when we were installing the lower ball joints (the boxes were marked with the R and L part numbers by the way)

So I called Summit (this was Sunday afternoon), and let them know we had a problem. These parts were drop shipped direct from Proforged... so I figured it was thier screw up. Summit Customer Service was very helpful and assured me they would swap them out with Moogs ASAP, because they have them in stock.

So the box arrived... already... today. I was pretty impressed... until I found this.

WTF Summit??? We have now exited the land of dumb-f#$%-ary... and entered the relm of stupid-f#$%-tard-ary.

 

BUT... here's a side note. Can we just END the "I only use OEM lower ball joints because all the other LBJs are cheap Chinese junk" argument.

 

moog switches up suppliers and you dont always get the 555 ones.

Thanks, it's pretty nice for sure. It's my second Ham setup, so even I'm still learning, hahahahaha!

Ham's a great way to go - gives you a lot of options, which is really nice. And if you continue to learn more about it (which I haven't, but my pops talks about it all the time), there are amazing things you can do.

You can definitely get APRS setup for a lot cheaper. A Baofeng UV5R, a Mobilinkd and a cable will get you going and is what a lot of folks use. Especially if you're transmitting positions to other guys you're out wheeling with, the power of a system like that is generally fine.

Nope. Both of those brands are inferior to OEM and will fail sooner rather than later. The evidence is overwhelmming. But hey, it's your truck, do what you want to your truck..

They both poor choices. Neither brand is worth using.

I order a new OEM door handle today (ouch).
Fixing on ordering some pods of some sort so I can having something to look forward to to get through Florida.

 

I know no one wants to hear OEM ball joints is the only way to go but do a little research. Why would anyone let a few dollars keep them from doing what they should do. I Just don't understand. This has been talked about so many times and proof given by people that really use their trucks off road. I just would not have confidence in my truck on anything but OEM. I like to argue as much as anyone else but there is really no argument on this subject. Maybe people just want to prove to everyone they are wrong but I want risk damaging my truck on a cheaper ball joint.

 

Condition was pretty bad. Removal and install was not too fun. Had to cut all of them out. Not too hard, but not to be underestimated.

 

Lmfao... I find it fricken HILARIOUS how people who modify multiple aspects of the major componants of their trucks turn around and claim OEM is "superior" to everything else... claiming higher quality of materials, or superior quality control, or better engineering, or Toyota being a larger company and that somehow means they know how to do things better.

Moog actually created many of the suspension componants ALL manufactures use today, they are under an umbrella that is bigger than Toyota.

But let's talk about higher quality materials... and better quality control... you're joking right?

You mean the same Toyota that has thousands of trucks that have frames, literally disintegrating?
The same Toyota that has known problems with premature transmission failures?
The same Toyota that used inferior materials to make thier headlights for around a decade?
The same Toyota that has the 2017 Consumer Reports rated "WORST BUY" truck on the market?

And the same Toyota that engineered a poorly designed lower ball joint, and had well documented issues with quality control, on that ball joint, that led to a major recall, which happens to be the very same ball joint we are supposed to believe that Toyota is the only company capible of manufacturing?

That arguement is at a professionally epic level of complete ridiculousness.

As long as you inspect and maintain your vehicle at a level that doesn't approach negligence, any halfway decent LBJ is safe. Sure you can get a longer service life out of a better ball joint but ALL LBJs will fail eventually and none of them are actually designed to get as many miles as many people put on them.
