TRD Pro & TX Baja OFFICIAL Thread...

It is a full replacement kit, I don’t plan to haul weight, and if I do.. its less than 5 times a year for a quick run to the hardware store so I didnt want the dakar after it seeming a bit stiff considering I have no weight 99% of the time. I was between deaver’s kit and ome, seemed like the wheelers would suit my case best since I didnt want a too stiff or too soft of a rear pack.

 

Makes perfect sense since I’ve had Dakar’s on a previous build. Seems like you and I use our trucks relatively the same. Great advice, thanks man!!

 

Yup! I drove two trucks with Dakars, and both owners said it is a bit stiff since they also run unloaded for the most part.

I tried looking around for threads about this 8 leaf setup, but I had trouble finding posts/threads as compared to dakars or even the j66. I’ll definitely try and give a review on it if you’re considering it.. but probably wont be putting on too many miles for the next month compared to usual.

 

Yeah no sweat, in time is good. I’m not ready to make a switch just yet....but when I do it’ll probably be the same set up......those Kings are pretty!!

Yeah me too.....as far as suspension goes. This Baja set up is nice and solid. Kings though......well they ar kings!! lol

 

I’m surprised you went with the 650 springs unless you want two inches of height as you will probably have a stiff front unless you have a plate bumper or something.

 

If these will give you a little lift (2”-3”).....isn’t that what you’d want plate bumper or not? I ask because right now my truck is at 2.25” in front and I’d want to maintain at least that hieght. This would give me just that....

 

Well for instance if you don't plan to have much weight on the front then 600# coil springs work great and has a nice progressive cushy feel kind of like a caddilac. As you adjust the coils for more height you will naturally compress the spring which is called "preload," will require more turns on the top collar. If you have a heavier spring rate, it should ideally make it where your preload doesn't need to be as much as the spring will make an increase in ride height with much less preload. Guys do this if they anticipate they want a lot of height initially out of their coilovers without cranking down their coilovers so much.

With light trucks like the Tacoma, normally to bump up from a 600# coil to a 700# coil is a significant amount and normally guys who use these weight springs have a full plate bumper with the intention of having a winch if they don't already have one. The ride will be stiff unless you have both of these components.

Nothing wrong going with a 650# spring if the user has the intention to increase their ride height by 2 inches minimum with no front bumper. If he wants to stay near stock height and doesn't want to adjust the rear for more increased height than he will be rolling stiffer than if he were as with the #600. The advantage he has though is by having clickers, he will ideally have a decent range of availability in the coilovers where the softest setting is probably closer to what a standard #600 feels like and setting 4-6 is what a standard #650 spring would feel like. I assume Bvita was informed by the distributor to go with the additional weighted springs for a reason.

Just put the wheels spacers on last night. So here it is with the Toytec top plate, 3 leaf AAL, and Spidertrax with 265/75s.

Still very mild compared to some of y'all's rigs. This thread is full of terrible influences ... I need to stop following it before my bank account is empty. (I'm looking at you @Coot83 @JuanitoBunito @BVita and @Dave41079.)

 

Well man, as long as you don't cross into the dark side you will be fine. As for me, that's one hell of an expensive hurdle. I think the build is coming along nicely man. Some days I wonder what having an SC would be like.

 

At the time, I was still influenced to go 650 so I stuck with it.

A very great explanation, I believe we spoke about it in out convo previously.
After speaking to a couple vendors, They also told me 600 would be the way to go, but I “can” go 650 if I’d like. I’ll be setting my truck at the max of 3”, so 2” or so over the stock trd pro. I honestly was fine with a stiffer ride of a 650 vs 600 since I drove an Icon and ADS setup and I didn’t mind it. My main issue was just have excess amount or getting close to that amount of preload. No bumper or which plans, skids are planned eventually.

The shop I am working with also advised me to go with 650# aswell. Now may have made a “mistake”, I’m not sure.. but I do most will stick to 600# or step up to the 700# if weight is planned. I guess worst case, I’ll swap to the 600# spring if I really find that the 650 is that bad.

I know @JuanitoBunito has dropped some knowledge in here with the baja spacer and aal setup, definitely a great reference seeing the 285 setup and a lifted baja/pro.

Definitely gotta give it up to @Dave41079 for actually using his truck and wheeling it. @Coot83 is just simply a effin’ beast with his setup overall.

 

Sounds like you are on the right path man as I wasn't sure if you were trying to retain stock height. With two to three inches of lift, I think 650 will serve you well with the preload mentality you had concerns with. Worst case...you got clickers man! I bet it works out well after hearing this although you likely told me in the previous convo too! #VELVITAFTW

 

It sucks having a black pro, love offroading, and being ocd about cleanliness at the same time

The cleaning never ends. I missed my black first gen, but I couldn't drive 20 ft without it getting dirty.
