Anyone good at troubleshooting brake lights on a 1st gen.

I’ve had this problem for a while but it’s time to get it fixed.
So when I turn on the head lights my driver side brake light comes on but my passenger side and one over the cab doesn’t.
When I press the brake the passenger and cab one comes on but the driver light goes off. o_O
    I already replaced the bulbs.

check the ground connections. Very common problem with anything bearing a chevy/gmc label, or any vehicle prone to excessive rust for that matter...

You know me I’m clueless with wiring . So when you say check grounds I’m assuming anywhere I have a ground wire touching the for a ground to check and make sure I have clean contact. I’ll just need to trace my grounds because I don’t know where they are all at.

start with battery ground to body, make sure its clean and the wire looks good.
then check/clean the body to frame connection, and the engine to frame connection, which is generally on the passenger side on the rear of the motor.

After that, pull the tail light housings, the grounds are direct to bulb on these trucks, just pull the bulbs and make sure the contacts are clean.

The light over the cab is only a brake light and doesn't turn on with the headlights, so it sounds like that one's working properly.

Oh @Star-Lord Where I did the tie in to move the battery to the rear. The ground that was there isn’t there. I also moved it to the back of the truck.

Should I add a ground wire at the junction box to where the origianal ground was? Or is that not needed?

prolly wouldn't hurt but it sounds like the problem may be at the tail light housing itself.
Past experience has shown that dirty, rusty grounds , either at the connection or internally in the wire can cause weird electrical issues. Could be a short in the wiring too. Not one that causes a seat fire but one that causes lights to turn on.

What everyone else said. And if all that checks out, try the stalk itself. My father in law had a similar issue in his car (it was some domestic sedan, I don't remember), but we took apart his turn turn signal stalk and all the contacts in there were gummed up and the copper was tarnished. We cleaned it up and it worked after that.

    Cool. Will do.

    Didn’t know that. Thanks

Yeah I was rear ended and had to splice my wires back together in both sides of the tail lights. I used the light blue waterproof heat shrink connectors. Maybe one of the wires got tugged on. I’ll start with the grounds. To check the wires is there a way to test from where the harness plugs into the tail light and main harness connection that’s under the seat? How would I do that?
