What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

If I was going to be getting a grade on my writing, I wouldn't be typing on my phone... or on a Truck Forum on the internet.

 

It was only started recently. I've had P0120 off and on for 2 months and then the other popped up and off and on for like 3 weeks if that. May be I'm not tighten my cap down enough Haven't seen the CEL in a few days

 

I wouldn't expect any sympathy.

And I also am not going to put myself in a position where I am out in the woods with a neglectfully maintained rig, where I am going to have a catastrophic failure of a lower ball joint.

Ball joints are a wear item. They should be inspected at regular intervals (manufacture recomendation is every 10,000 miles and/or every 3000 miles if regularly used in dusty or adverse conditions), and serviced when they show wear. If you do even half that... you can avoid a catastrophic failure of just about ANY lower ball joint.

Will some LBJs fail sooner than others? Absolutely... but LBJs don't just snap with no sign of wear that would be noticed during routine maint by someone who knows what they are doing.

Everyone on here is simply pointing out the oem will last much longer. And unless you like checking LBJ play with a micrometer ever 3000 miles which you will definitely want to do with moog joints as you'll probably end up swapping them out ever 5-15k miles because your time is worthless. Be our guest. You'll be fine. Just spend a lot more time under the truck.

I like wrenching on these rigs more than anyone. But I don't want to don't want to swap LBJ as often as I change oil.

Last night My truck doesn't turn over like it should (it was a cold start)

It's a more of a slow sputter and not quick like it usually is.
I replaced the spark plugs and Fuel Filter recently.

Bad Fuel injectors?
Bad starter ?
Bad alternator ?

 

Anyone know a good service for resetting seatbelts after the airbags go off? I remember a good one on here. Just not the name. @1997tacomav6 was that you?

 

Is this a bad idea? I feel like it's a bad idea for my taco lean, shim on one side in the back doesn't seem right. I dunno though.

 

Get your battery load stested. Autozone will do it for free.

 

It's a bandaid fix sure, but sometimes you need a bandaid right? Won't hurt anything longterm and a half inch is pretty harmless anyway.

 

Cool cool thanks! Just seems like the OME spacer up front will not fix over an inch of lean in the back. Seems like this is more of a direct placement

 

If you do this, get new leaf string ubolts too. You do not want to re-use ubolts.

 

Even if I just put new heavy duty ones on with my lift a couple months ago?

 

The front suspension is not 1:1 geometry, so the OME trim packer affects more than it seems it might but you're correct that it will help a lot more to have a little assistance front and rear.
