Missing Valet Key ?

I noticed I am missing the Valet Key, I cant remember if mine ever came with one.

Bought mine new in 2012. Thanks

 

My 2008 did, even though it seems silly to have one with these trucks.

 

I have one with my 2009, don't know what it does as it didn't seem any different when I used it

 

Typically a valet key only works in the doors and ignition, but not the trunk, glovebox, or anything else that locks

 

Took me 5 years to notice I was missing it. geez, wonder if the dealer still has a it?

 

Any 2012+ owners have a valet key??

 

My 2013 never came with one. I believe they stopped in 2009

 

I think the only difference on Tacos is that the valet key won't allow the user to program additional transponder keys.

 

The concept of a valet key is pretty stupid if you think about it. It’ll work on your engine so someone with it can just steal your vehicle. Bring it somewhere and then take their time prying open all of the cheap locks to get their contents.

 

This is exactly why my everyday key is my grey valet key... Keep the master key in a safe place, you can always use it to make another key. If you lose the valet key, no big deal.

 

2012 didn't come with a Valet Key.

 

My 2010 came with one. I use it all the time as my beach / surfing key. Stick it on a loop of paracord and wear it around my neck under the wetsuit.

 

There was no valet key included with my 2014 Tacoma. Just two standard keys with electronic fobs.

Just the 2 ignition keys. I immediately went to the hardware store and had 3 door only keys made.

 

I use it as my beach key also.

 

yup 2012+ does not come with a vallet key as its pointless nothing else to lock other than the doors and main ignition. Glovebox doesnt lock.

It is probably just a copy of the key without a transponder

 

Yep, just cheap all metal $7 keys. Put 1 in a hide-a-key, 1 in your wallet, and a few in the house.
