Hi all. I just closed a deal on a 2017 Access Cab SR5. This truck had the tube steps on it at the dealer but I wasn't interested in paying extra for it since I don't particularly like them. So the dealer took them off (they wouldn't just give them to me).

Tacomas come with bolt plugs on them to cover the attachment points for the steps, however since mine came with the steps originally they do not have these plugs. The dealer told me you do not really need these plugs, but I'd feel more comfortable with them in. My guess is they are going to put the steps on different truck, so I asked if I could have the bolt plugs if that is the case. I am still waiting to hear from them as I did not take the delivery for the truck yet.

In the case that I can't get those plugs, does anyone know the part number for those plugs? Or if there is some generic plug I can put in its place?

Hmm I can’t remember if mine had the plugs or not just before I installed my steps. If it where me I’d buy some of these:DD13E784-41B7-4428-946B-5EDA37827CB7.jpg

Or go to your local hardware store and purchase some stainless steel bolts and call it a day.

If you use bolts to plug the holes, I would recommend using anti-sieze on them to keep the threads in good shape. FWIW.

Thanks for those who responded. The dealer just contacted me and said they're getting me plugs.

I bought my TRD off the showroom floor. Running boards were already installed on the truck and the price was on the vehicle. When drawing up the bill the salesman tried to ding me extra for the already installed running boards. telling me they were a vehicle option and not included in price tag on vehicle. I called bull as we had already decided on price, his boss had already okayed the deal and I was buying what I was looking at. He told me they would remove them or I could pay $350 more for them. I replied that if he still wanted the sale, they would stay on at at the price we had already negotiated. Back to his boss he went and when he came back my running boards were included no charge. Don't think they were willing to lose a cash sale over a set of running boards. Plus the labour to remove them.

What’s the going price these days in the muggle market for a set of new condition used tube steps for the DCSB? I’m getting sliders too and will be removing my tubes soon to put up for sale on CL or on FleaBay, I’d never sell them on TW because you guys are a bunch of cheapskates and already have your own garages full of stuff you took off your own trucks to sell! :D

Oh yeah, If you don’t have plugs to seal the holes, another option is black silicone - it waterproofs metal threads pretty nicely. To clean it out in the future if you need to remove it, just use a small screw to pull out what you can and a small wire brush to get the rest.
