payload increase

Hey, I am new to the site. I have a 05 tacoma double cab TRD sport. and i have noticed that it only has 3 leafs total in the rear. and the newer years have 4. Are all 2005 models this way?

Also, i am installing a toytec 3" lift, AAL in the rear and new coils for the front. Anyone know what kind of payload increase this will give? Thanks

 

All 2005 models come that way but there is a tsb (toyota service bulletin) to fix it. Since you're a 2005 it wont be under warranty...but an aal is pretty much the same thing. You will have a higher payload not sure how much though. Someone else will chime in in that...

 

Odds are that the AAL will give you exactly what Toyota advertises (1500 lbs hauling, 6500 towing - if I remember correctly). The reason for the free 4th leaf was that Toyota designed the truck to haul less than advertised and had to install (for free to those who asked for it) the 4th leaf to meet their advertising claims.

I had the 3 leafs, added the 4th TSB leaf then went to the OME 7 leaf pack... if you don't go at least with the OME, or equivalent, you won't gain much capacity at all.

They expire at 3 years/36000 miles. If it's for your '05, you're too late for the TSB. I don't know that the TSBs are the same in Canada.

 

TSBs do not expire.

Warranty coverage expires. If you need a repair covered by a TSB prior to your warranty expiring, it will likely be covered. If it is after your warranty expires, the repair will likely not be covered (you can pay for it).

 

Semantics. He still doesn't qualify.

 

Are we positive that this is covered under the comprehensive warranty and not the Powertrain warranty? 5year 60K? You would be surprised at some of the things covered in powertrain that you wouldn't even think had to do with it.

And what years is this TSB for exactly

 

We are. It states in the TSB which warranty and for which trucks it applies:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.​
