My kids love those! They have last year's red Impreza sedans as well.

    Yes, they're dog toys. LOL!

BTW, my responses are based on on-road applications.

    http://www.dirtfish.com/blog/rally-tires-what-makes-them-special/

What about snow/winter rallies? There are a couple of manufacturers that make rally-specific snow tires. Commonly there are three different kinds of snow tire; ones for deep/soft snow, ones for hard-packed snow and others made for ice. The most common deep snow tire is the Yokohama AO34. They are built the same way as a gravel rally tire, but have a very soft compound with a wide open tread pattern (studless). For hard packed snow, people choose a tire that is similar to a snow tire you would see on everyday streetcars (studless or studded). Finally, the tires built for ice are very different from the rest. They are extremely narrow (almost half the width of the gravel tire) and are equipped with large studs or spikes, virtually giving the cars more traction that a gravel tire on a dirt road.

My Chihuahua won't play with them but my daughter's Corgi will tear it to shreds, so the Crosstrek is staying on the shelf:)

    Stock.
I bought mine in the middle of a snowstorm in March and am now in full winter up here in Anchorage. I came from an Xterra Pro-4X and the Taco is way better in my mind. I'd agree the stock tires leave a little to be desired but I drove up Arctic Valley yesterday and it went up and down like a champ pony.

In Post #102, TexMeg89 Wrote: "I apologize in advance if this is a dumb newb questions and/or if I've overlooked the thread with the answer....I am trying to find the ideal PSI to air down to for stock tire/wheel set up to drive on snow (without the tires popping off the wheels)? Am planning to go on some FS roads this weekend and there will be snow. Also, never driven in snow either haha..."

I think it depends on what type of "snow driving" you are doing.

If you are off-road, and the snow is really deep, you want to float on top of it, so air down. How much depends on your tires and wheels. With stock set-up, I'd try 20psi, and as stated previously, air down more if necessary; you should be safe down to 15psi. For comparison, in deep sand on 31x10.5 tires on 15-inch wheels (not beadlock) I used to air down to 12-15psi. I didn't drive like crazy - was just heading to a surf spot - and I never blew a bead. With beadlock wheels you can obviously go lower, but you've made it clear you are not running beadlocks. If you are looking for flotation (snow or sand) you want a big fat tire.

If you are on-road, a tall skinny tire is the best snow set-up, but you should run at factory recommended psi for the tires regardless of whether you are running stock tires or aftermarket tires.

If you want advice from a pro, call Discount Tire or Tire Rack, they talk about tires for a living!

Like I said, on road application. All in all, a narrower snow tire works better than a wider (stock or greater) width tire. Even when you choose a factory sized snow tire, the actual tread width is narrower than an a non-snow tire.

 I knew what you meant - was just clarifying because some posts were referring to off-road driving while others were referring to on-road, and it might have been confusing to "TexMeg89" who was new to snow and was looking for advice. Definitely didn't mean to step on any toes.
P.S. Its finally snowing here! :bananadance:

Made a couple of edits to clarify previous posts (#128 and #131) - sorry for being a slacker and not looking up the post (#102) I was replying to!

Thanks for the clarification!! :) We'll be going off-road (nothing crazy, just some FS roads) and I'll be following at least 2 trucks that are much better equipped/experienced.

Sounds like a good time! Last comment on psi: a certain psi (let's say 15) might be safe (i.e. you won't blow a bead) for certain driving conditions or styles of driving, but unsafe for other conditions - so there is no magic number when it comes to psi. In my experience, consistent sand or snow is unlikely to pull a tire off a wheel - unless you are cornering hard. Sudden lateral force is the thing most likely to cause you to blow a bead. So keep the wheels as straight as possible, don't romp on the gas too hard, and you'll have a blast!

Thanks! I'll probably just air down to 20PSI and I can't imagine we will be going balls to the wall speeding

I am always looking for new places to check out. I mostly stick to highway 410 since that is close to me.
