Air Conditioner Won't Stop

I've looked through the forums and haven't seen this issue so here it goes.

My a/c has never been very powerful but works well enough to cool the compartment, however when I get the temperature where I want it, I turn off the system. The problem is whatever temperature I had it set last, there is still a significant amount of air coming through the vent even an hour after I turn it off, requiring me to constantly mess with the temperature knob, which still affect the temp of the air coming out WITH THE SYSTEM TURNED OFF.

Has anyone else had this issue with their 2010? I was going to address it with the dealership during my oil change in 800 miles but seeing if this is common. I come from driving a 1972 Plymouth Road Runner which closed a door keeping air from still coming through the system, I imagine they still use something similar.

 

The only way to stop the fresh air from coming in is to push the REC button.

btw, Even my '85 Toyota Truck did this. :shrug: I like the fresh air.

 

Close your air vents.

Do you still hear the compresser running after you turn it off?

The compressor does turn off. For example, its freezing cold out so you put the heat on full blast until its a comfortable temperature. You turn it off but the truck continues to naturally push hot air through so you turn on the a/c, and the process starts all over again. Hot, Cold, Hot, Cold.

As for closing the vents? Really? It's 2010, my car from 1972 could stop the airflow once you turn the system off, not to mention how unsafe it would be while driving to reach across. Is this a design flaw?

I like fresh air too, but not when it's pushing more hot air in the cab.

 

No, it doesn't have a temp controller.

 

hahaha all you have to do is push the recirculation buton once and it automaticly shuts youre vents off.

 

press the button with the arrow going into the car and turn it on

 

Push the REC button and your problem is fixed.

What I meant to say before is that this sounds like a serious problem... I think your truck is practically worthless... I'll buy it for $5k for scrap.

all of the toyotas i have owned have this "feature". no matter what the toyota, i have found it's best to turn the vents to defrost once the desired temp is reached summer or winter as well as turn the fan speed to low and the temp stays comfortable. yes make sure you turn off the compressor/AC or you will get condensation on the windows. this trick has served me well many years from driving in arizona in the middle of summer to harsh winters in colorado...
