You may have missed this conversation, but earlier in this thread I mentioned that I found out a good friend and former coworker of mine had a bit of a cocaine habit, and how I was pissed off that he lied to me about it.

    I just thought of something...

We've all heard of the saying "Powdering my nose" used by women when they take an extraordinarily long time in the bathroom...

    I can't help but wonder...

How many times has it been taken the wrong way when women say they are going to the restroom to powder their nose?!?!

This is probably especially true at a bar, or at a large fraternity/sorority party (or any part for that matter where all guests are under 25 and there is heavy drinking involved)...

That's not usually something people like to share Sir Charles.

And, drug addicted people tend to be a tad bit less honest.

Is heroin as big of a problem in Texas as it is here in Pennsylvania? I've heard that Texas has a substantial meth problem...

The same thing goes for DUIs. A few of my friends have gotten a DUI before, and you'd think they'd be embarrassed about it, but they are surprisingly willing to discuss it (just like my friends who have admitted to trying coke before). I think their goal is making sure other people don't make the same mistake.

I know two (not one, but two) different people (both guys in their 20s) who have admitted that they mistakenly took crystal meth, thinking it was a drug called Molly.

Okay, so here's something to think about...

My uncle lives in Myrtle Beach. He recently met a guy who just moved operations for his large business from Colorado to South Carolina. Why? Well, unless you've been living under a rock, you probably know that recreational cannabis is legal in Colorado. I do not smoke myself, but I am in favor of the nationwide legalization of marijuana for all purposes.

So, why did this entrepreneur leave Colorado? Simple. He got fed up with the fact that most of his current and prospective employees were too stoned to work! Those who could work were still so high that they could just barely function!

I still think that the government should just completely legalize weed and simply tax the shit out of it (would really help the economy IMO), but the above story really makes you wonder...

I am what you might consider a "closeted" Star Wars fan. Actually, that might not be the right word, because closeted typically means that a person wants to keep something a secret. I make no attempt to hide the fact that I love Star Wars, everything from the characters, to the vehicles, to the overall storylines. The only Star Wars movie I'm not a fan of is Episode I. It holds the distinction of being the only newer Star Wars movie I didn't see in the theaters.

What I'm trying to say is that I love Star Wars, and will make no attempt to hide this. I have no shame in telling even the most dedicated Trekkies that I prefer Star Wars over Star Trek.

However, I've never been to any conventions (either comic-cons or Stars Wars-exclusive meets) and I'm not a member of any fan clubs. I've never dressed up as any Star Wars characters for Halloween, either.

I had a bunch of Star Wars toys in the late 90s, and I played with them until they fell apart. I own Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith on DVD. I do not own the original trilogy, but after borrowing it from my best friend Doug for a 6-hour drive to Virginia, I think that'll change.

As of right now, the only clue to my love of Star Wars is this magnet on my Tacoma's tailgate...

    image.jpg

The magnet shown above makes it pretty obvious what my favorite spacecraft in the whole franchise is!

FYI, people love the magnet! I get compliments at stop lights, gas stations, and even the parking lot at work. One time, an ambulance pulled up next to me at a red light, and there were three paramedics coming back from lunch. They complimented me on the magnet...

Another time I was at a red light and there was this young male Uber driver in a Kia Soul directly behind me (I knew he was an Uber driver because he had a sticker in his windshield). I saw him take out his iPhone and snap a picture of the back of my truck. 99% sure he loved my sticker...

As for how I got into Star Wars, I have my parents to thank for that. Everyone knows the original movie came out in 1977. In 1997, the movie was re-released to commemorate the 20th anniversary.

I'd heard of Star Wars when I was younger, but I'd never shown an interest in it. Also keep in mind that I was quite young, and maybe my parents thought it would be too intense for a young kid. I got my first batch of Star Wars toys for my 8th birthday, and I know I became obsessed with Star Wars after I saw the movie, which means I would have been just 7 years old when I saw the movie for the first time. I was born in March, and I vaguely remember that my parents took me to see the movie in March 1997. Star Wars merchandise started seeing a resurgence in 1996-1997, and we were living Northern California at the time.

My parents said one day that they were taking me to see Star Wars, and they were absolutely sure I would love it. They weren't kidding! They took me to a movie theater somewhere in Santa Clara County, and I was almost immediately hooked.

On a side note, we lived in government/military housing the entire time we lived in California that second time, from 1996 until 1998. From September or August of 1996 until March 1997, we lived in this shitty WWII-era house. Some of the neighborhood kids who liked to tease me (I'd classify them as fair weather friends) had Star Wars toys that they'd never share with me. To really rub it in, this one kid would chase after me with his toy Millenniun Falcon and make gun/blaster noises. This, combined with my recent introduction to Star Wars by my parents, made me want my own toy Falcon even more! At one point, I got right in this kid's face and told him that it was almost my 8th birthday and my parents were going to be getting me a better Millennium Falcon. This pissed the little turd off and he said something along the lines of "I'd better just give it to him because he'd steal it as soon as he got the chance." This was the same kid I believe to this day was responsible for stealing and vandalizing my new bicycle in September 1996, so I took it quite seriously. I ran back home to my dad quite upset, and he told me I had nothing to worry about. Luckily, a larger on-base house became available, and we moved within a month or less of that little debacle.

I am pretty sure I never saw those douchebags again!

Anyway, I did end up getting a better Falcon than that kid. He had the smaller version, which had associated action figures that were smaller than LEGO mini-figures. My cousin got the same one for Christmas in 1996. Unfortunately, he lives about 3,000 miles away, across the country in Virginia. This meant that playing with his Falcon would not be easy...

I asked for a Millennium Falcon for my birthday, and the one ingot was definitely better than the one my cousin and the neighborhood kid had...

Things had been very busy leading up to my birthday, since we moved look a week before. My parents bought me presents and wrapped them up, but they hadn't had the time to pick up the Falcon. My mom just drove to the local Toys "R" Us and told me to pick the one I wanted. The one I picked out was larger, and had lights and sounds!
