The airbag on my driver side is disabled. There are certainly times when they can reduce injury, but what you never hear are the injuries actually caused by airbags. Lost eyes are a big one. Your face is literally exposed to an explosive device. Smaller people are the ones most often injured because they sit closer and lower. That's why they must be turned off for kids. I'm always worried that a minor offroad bump might set one off. I've made it this far without them, so I'll take my chances. Mostly I still believe in choices, and respect those that differ from mine.

As far as ABS, a trained driver will always stop faster and safer. That's why no racers use ABS to my knowledge. As long as untrained drivers are allowed to drive, then ABS will safe accidents.

Couple thing; my buddy owns an import auto shop and he says about E-Brakes "if you use an e-brake, always use it" & "if you don't use one, never use it". If used regularly it doesn't seize up but if you use it occasionally then the corrosion will jam up the cables and bellcranks.

Also, if you live in the snow belt, don't use the e-brake and park on inclines, the rear differential will allow one tire to turn forward and the other backwards on REALLY slick surfaces like when there is water over ice. Found my neighbors car half way in street last week. Had to chuckle because I had been there.

If ABS is allowed in the rules, it will be on the car. The computer can control the brakes at full threshold braking far better than a human ever can. Same goes for traction control

Jeremy Clarkson made a point on the most recent Grand Tour that sums it up. The test for designers of self driving cars should be they have to trust riding in it over the road between La Paz and Coroico in Bolivia.

No but I owned a 1986 Ford F-150 rust bucket...the only thing that didn't rust was the steering wheel.

I only ask because it wasn't a matter of if but when the rear bellcrank on those trucks would freeze up. It's not a matter of rusting or lack of maintenance (which was a different beast). I mean becoming an ice block from road spray. The mechanism is exposed on the back side of the backing plate. Fluid Film and PAM spray help but it's inevitable it'll happen eventually.

You could sub 'blue screen of death' for MS.

Much more meaningful to the casual reader. Particularly in this case.

funny thing is i think they are leaking fluid, something is. i had the ol' throw out bearing, clutch disc and cover replaced last year and the clutch pedal was snappy as fuck when i got it back. now i can feel teeth hitting each other if i dont stomp down the clutch when shifting.

And you think this is related to wheel cylinders? o_O

Have you looked at the fluid level in your clutch master cylinder? Sounds more like a leaking/failing slave or failing master to me.

Does your seatbelt have an airbag tear out stitch? If so, you may want to install a seat belt without one.

In an accident the stitch releases under your bodies load to reduce crushing force (as far as I'm aware). This causes the belt to extend a few inches because they assume the airbag will stop you. If it extends and the air bag is not there, you may end up slamming your face or head into the wheel.

Truth. I simply sniped the stitching on my Miata as part of my bag removal process when I installed the Nardi wheel.

In '96 models bags were still pretty much in the 'bomb' phase which wasn't that appealing to me.

I couldn't make it past the 3rd page so pardon me if this has already been addressed.

It doesn't stress the trans to leave it in gear when parked

If you hold the brake and apply throttle what exactly is taking the load off of the brakes?
