At work we have vehicles from the big 3 in different years, trims, and sizes. In reality every modern pickup is a great vehicle, it all comes down to personal preference

I also really like the new Silverado regular cab, (with G80 locking diff), and if my 16 Tacoma ever gives me any problems, that would probably be my next truck.

I'm not...I'm still leary of gm 35 yrs later....
I agree in part ...reminds me of what my dad used to say back in the late 70's -I would always ask him -what's the best truck ? he would hesitate to answer, but when I pressed him some more for an answer he said " they're ALL good when they run " now many yrs later -I get that answer completely, but at the time back then it irked me...

I did opposite. I traded in my 17 TRD OR for a 17 Silverado LT. I HAd a love hate relationship with my 3rd gen. I do miss it tho. I needed the Silverado for space. I’ve only been outa the taco for 4 months. But damn browsing the “what did you do to your tacoma today thread” really makes me miss it more. They look so damn good to me. But I’m happy with the Silverado.

I just went from a 14 Sierra with the 5.3 V8. Drove it for 3 years and 45K miles. Overall, really liked it. Lots of city driving and auto starting Averaged just under 15 mpg. Only real complaint was the transmission. Stomp on the gas and count to three while it looks for a gear.

I had a fully loaded 14' Sierra with the 5.3 as well. Traded it in after I drove it out of warranty recently, drove my backup (06' Tacoma TRD till I finally got my 18' Taco in cement). The Sierra looked great and all, but IMHO it worst suspension and road feedback I felt on a vehicle. I could feel the truck shake I drove over confetti. And for a V8, that sucker lagged when you gave it gas. My 18' Taco isn't as torquey off the line as my old 4.0l, but once you learn to drive it in a gear lower then the old Taco, and that bad boy pulls! Love the change from Sierra to Tacoma. If I ever went full size truck again, I'd get a 2500HD Diesel but will hold on to my taco nonetheless.

I had a 2015 Silverado LTZ. Loved that truck, and regret selling it every day. I’d never own a full size with an N/A V6.

    But,
    -dash warped, twice
-driveline vibration (ended up getting it fixed)

Yeah i’m Trying to decide, I love my ‘12 DCSB but my 2 daughters are now teenagers which makes for a cramped ride with their humongous backpacks, purses, etc...plus it’s hard to haul a lot in the bed, always wondering if something is going to fit. I had a 2002 Silverado and loved it but electrical gremlins kept killing battery if it sat for more than a couple days which led to me selling and getting my Tacoma in 2012 for gas reasons, but now Silverado get about same mileage.
Guess I need to test drive one to see...
Are insurance rates better on the Silverado since it has more safety features and 4 wheel disc brakes.

I don't think your insurance will change. Actually, when I went from an F150 to Tacoma, the rate went up slightly. (F150 was 3 years old). I strongly suggest test driving an F150. The back seat is HUMONGOUS! Bigger than a Tundra Crewmax. Your kids will love it, as did mine.

I like my Tacoma, but if I could make a full-size truck work, I would go back in a heartbeat. Not a Silverado (nice trucks), but an F150.

Honestly a GM full size would probably be a better truck for me, seeing as how I don't "overland" to my local state park with my never-been-used MaxTrax's bolted to a bed rack. But they're just so boisterously large. Even reaching into the bed for day to day storage would be tiring.

    Pros and cons folks.

Plenty of people overland in full size rigs. And not with jacked up 12" Rough Country lifts, either. I've been on a LOT of backcountry roads in my fullsize pick up (stock with 33" tires). Yep, it gets tight at times. But let's not forget, Tacoma isn't exactly a small truck anymore either.

Well I test drove a Silver ‘18 Silverado LT Z71 w/5.3L today and as much as I wanted to like it, it just wasn’t there. I really like the front end styling of the Z71 being color matched; has a sporty look to me. Not a fan of the step bumper though. The interior felt outdated to us once in it, but than again I think they haven’t changed a whole lot since ‘07 when they went to this body style. The thing that really got me though was the momentary lag felt I guess from the active fuel mgmt system and to me didn’t feel like it had the power it advertised, but that could also be gearing and trans. I was wanting to try out a 6.2L, but they didn’t have any in stock and i’m Not sure it would change my mind anyway. I actually liked getting back in my Tacoma.

So I think i’m Going to test drive a 5L F150 Crew as Phsycle suggested and a Tundra to see how they stack up. If not i’ll Just stick with the Tacoma and make the kiddos walk:D

    Most 5.0 f150s come with 3.31s. Try to find one without 3.31s. I’ve had two 5.0 150s.

In my case of this particular Silverado it would have gone up by $27 more per year, so not bad.

I always find out what insurance costs before I get any vehicle. When I was 19 I got a 1995 Trans Am and my insurance payment a month was more than the loan payment:eek:, so I learned from that.

What other gears do they offer?
I see F150’s now have a Auto stop/start system which sound like a hybrid. It cuts off at stops and restarts when letting off brake.

3.73. The 5.0 with the 8 speed is an awesome combination. The stop start is annoying but can be turned off. My BMW has it and it’s incredibly annoying lol.
