I kinda had a similar issue. I purchased mine when it had happened to be raining for like 2 weeks here in North Texas. When they sun finally came out I could see all the swirl marks and scratches in the black paint, they offered to buff it out but who has time to drop off their daily driver for that. So I took it has a life lesson learned not to buy a vehicle during an overcast and stop buying black.

I've seen a thread from way back with the same problem. Almost the same side/doors too. People thought the dealer crashed it on delivery and resprayed. I think it's just the way that metallic shines in the sun. Could also be the way the robots applies the paint and at what angle.
Solution? Get a quicksand. Just plain dull color with no sparkle. But hey.. it matches!

This is true. That color is a tough one to completely match.Door and darker parts may have been resprayed at factory because of a goof?My ma had a mid 80s Dodge Daytona with a similar problem.Dark cherry metallic was a hard one to match. One door must have been resprayed,it was slightly darker in good light.

When I went to buy a topper for my 1996 Dodge Ram(emerald green metallic),the guy at the cap dealer had about 8 or 10 shades of that color on chip samples. To try to get a close match on that color.

It’s just the flop. There is no difference in color.

It’s actually from a GM TSB on the Camaro. They had to come out address the same thing between the door and the quarter panel.
It’s a good visual aid to to show people that don’t know anything about paint, and freak out thinking their vehicle is different colors...that it’s not.

There is no difference in color, the entire body is painted at the same time, the same color, with the same paint.
Same thing with the tacoma and every other vehicle on the road.

The perception is caused by the flop and the angle that you are looking at the vehicle, orientation of the lighting source and a number of other factors.

This is something common certain color metallic finishes. MGM being a good example, but it also stands out on golds and silvers.

Wow I’m glad I found this. MGM would have been one of my acceptable colors but not now!! Black, cement, silver, mgm, white...in that order.
