My 4cyl 2nd gen does great in snow! Especially with 1000lbs in the bed.

Did you run a plow on the Ram with the BFG’s? I’m no expert, but I would not run any plow only vehicle without snow tires or chains.

[Yes. I ran a Western HTS plow on the Ram with the KO2s. Probably would have been better with dedicated snow tires but I had just spent $1000 on the 20" KO2s and couldn't bring myself to spend more on tires at that time. I have read that the KO2s get rock hard as the temp falls. Not the best idea for winter driving. The Hankook Dynapro AT/Ms have the mountain snowflake symbol on the sidewall and I have read that their rubber compound stays softer in sub freezing weather.

My wife's 2015 Xterra Pro 4X came stock with the Dynapro AT/M tires. They have done great in the snow and a wearing pretty good considering their soft compound. I think we will be buying them again for her. I want to try the Cooper ST/MAXX tires on my truck when the Goodyears are toast.

Here is a picture of the Xterra from last Christmas out in the "back 40" of my parent's homestead in Maine while we were visiting. Probably 10-12" of fresh powder on top a frozen base of snow underneath.

LOL - we were dragging in places. I made sure to make tracks ahead of me, and then I backed up before stopping to take the picture so when I took off again I would be able to get some momentum.

The Cooper Discoverer M+S is a great tire! I almost went with that, so its good to hear that you like them so much. I chose the Nokian Hakka LT2; it was a little narrower (0.6 of an inch) in the 265/70/17 than the Cooper - I don't know if half an inch makes any difference - probably not - but I like a narrower tire in the snow. I don't have the concerns you do about LT tires - yeah, they are heavier, which is not great for gas mileage, and probably slows acceleration a bit, but they have beefier sidewalls and I like that protection, and I like the stiffer feel when cornering. I haven't had any trouble balancing them. I think its awesome that we have so many good choices with tires now! And yeah, having a true winter tire makes winter driving a blast!

I think you are right about for on road or less than 4-6 inches of snow, however, I would think that off road in the snow you would want as much traction as possible. I mean if you would normally air down to go off road then you still would air down to go off road in the snow?

Early last month I got caught in a blizzard up in the continental divide, complete with black ice on the twisty mountain road. As an inexperienced snow driver (I'm from San Diego lol), my 4x4 Sport with Nitto AT's handled it amazingly. I couldn't have been more impressed.

I was SO CLOSE to buying the tires you have... But we have few Nokian dealers and it was a hassle... The classic "on back order bullshit"...

I spent some years in Flagstaff playing in the snow and cinder hills. I always see snow and think to myself, what fun I am gonna have! However, on a highway especially at night, if I see or expect ice then I am looking for the closest Hilton.

Mine does great! Running Wild Trail CTX tires 285/75r16's. Basically a Cooper ST MAXX copy, they are made by Cooper tires.

Locker with snow in 2wd? Why would you want that activated in the snow... do you want to crash ?

All my jeeps did was want to go straight if I turned. Maybe it was cuz I was spooled. Even still with the Tacomas their locked together. A lunch box let one wheel spin faster turning rather than both at equal speeds

I don't think he's saying he wants to drive around with the locker always on..

It would be just be nice to be able to flick it on in 2wd under certain circumstances..

    And I agree..

Wiring diagram makes it seem a lot more complicated than the 2nd gen
