so I’m not new here but I had to create a new username since I haven’t been on in a while.. this is my third Tacoma, I’ve owned 2 2nd gens previously.

    To my question:
I’ve searched a lot of threads on here regarding lifts and wheel/tires for 3rd gens but everything is kind of all over the place so let me tell you what I’m looking for and let you guys give me your thoughts, be gentle on tearing me apart lol

    - 3” + lift (would really like 6”)
    - would like 35’s if I’m on a 6” lift but 33s on the 3” I’d rather not trim anything, or at least have it be very minimal
    - would like my tires to sit flush with my fenders
    - Would like a good lift, not a cheap shitty one
    - 5000 installed is the max I’d want to spend
    - would like something that will increase the payload in the bed, so there is no sag if I add a cap, toolbox, etc.. I don’t mind the rear sitting an inch or so higher than the front
    - don’t want it to cause (or at least limit as much as possible) premature wear of other parts
    - I won’t be doing any hardcore off-roading, just some mudding in the New Jersey pines, and driving on the beach, mainly will be for looks (at least I’m honest lol)
That’s about it haha, I know certain things I mention may contradict another, but that’s why I’m asking forrecommendations... these are basically just things to start with, I’m not set on one or the other.

    Thanks !

There’s probably 80 threads that discuss this for third gens. However, I went through the same thing. I could not find a definitive answer for what I wanted. Here’s what I settled on.

Bilstein 5100 shocks front and rear. Ome 887 springs in the front and a 1.5 inch add a leaf in the rear. Gave me 3 inches of lift and levels the truck. I kept my stock off road wheels and put 285s on the wheels with spider trax spacers and I have zero rubbing at all. I also didn’t trim anything. That’s just my experience. Call Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road and she will hook you up.

Thanks a lot, I think this is the route I’m gonna end up going, i may get the trd pro wheels though.. I don’t do enough off-roading to warrant anything to expensive or hardcore

I would also do a little research before to start all this. I don’t have an 18 but I’ve read some stuff on here about people talking to the dealer and saying they are able to lift them right now because all the safety stuff.

I was wondering this myself, I feel like recalibration of all the safety sensors would be required

I recommend this also. Currently saving for nearly the exact setup.

@Brent2014 Did you have to do the cab mount chop?

No I didn’t. Didn’t even have to trim plastic. I don’t rub on anything even at full flex and lock.

OME kit and call it a day. Under your budget and quality components that will aid in hauling more weight.

Well... 35s totally won’t wear down your brakes and transmission any faster. So that takes care of Wear and Tear...
And I’ve never seen a 35 that sits even flush with the fender. So check that off the list.
And going “mudding” meaning you want to go thru a 2” deep puddle on the side of the road? Or.......

Go with a nice 2-2.5” setup w 265 or 285 and call it a day. There’s a reason so many people do this size. It’s great for looks, functionality, ease of installation, etc.

ok, gonna make this as clear and as simple as I can. 3" and lower 33" is max tire size, be prepared to to cmc and trim, no avoiding that. 6" lift, do that and its a snowball effect, read "your gonna open up a whole world of hurt(aka alot of cash). You can put 33" pizza cutters(33" x 9") on with little or no trim with a 3" lift.

PS, I spent 5k on my build, lift/rims/tires, so your looking at that kind of setup. Yes I trimmed and cmc

I think the full OME kit with Dakar rear springs would suit you perfectly fine, and is what I run. I am able to fit 255/85/16's on my stock SR5 steelies with no trimming but I did remove the mudflaps which were rubbing before hand. I have the 886 springs in the front since I have the ARB bumper with a winch as well as skid plates and sliders. They were a little stiff until I added the skid plates and now they're perfect. I recently added an aluminum contractor cap and there was no noticeable sag. No reason to get a 6" lift IMO or really anything over 3" and if you do go over 3" you'll need to spend more money on things like upper control arms, which you don't need with the OME kit (my alignment numbers came out great). Good luck with the search. Also, ARB was great when I called them to figure out what springs I needed for my build, very helpful.
