Yes I run it in 2wd. I don't recall any ruts that are too big for stock. Last time out I could tell that weather has changed portions of it a lot. It is a fairly long trail to run. Has about 3 gates that you need to open and close. You'll probably also run across a bunch of cows toward the end of the run. The last portion of the trail going downhill is a bunch of tight switchbacks.

I ran Senator Hwy starting in Prescott. Pretty drive and 2wd friendly. It took us 3.5 hrs to get to CK going that way. You cross a small part of the stream that runs next to the trail which was no big deal when we went. It is pretty remote during lots of the drive. There is an old stagecoach stop called Palace Station which is pretty cool to check out. Parts of the trail are pretty rough so rally driving isn't really possible. I enjoyed the desolation and change of scenery along the trail.

I'm not all high and might at all, bit rather humble for the fact that I have 4wd now, but I got it because of something awful that happened and could have been a lot worse had someone died. I would still have that truck if that event had not happened. If I had not gotten my current truck, I would not be doing some of the trails I have done in the last two years. There are some trails I still have not done that require 4wd because I don't feel comfortable enough to do them. One of them is Box Canyon. This is my DD and I need to have it to get to work and anywhere else around town. I am not as fortunate enough like some to have a 2nd vehicle in case something breaks on my truck. I do have access to a vehicle if need be, I can't always rely on that vehicle to be there if I need to drive it since its not mine. I am in no position to be able to buy a new vehicle if I had gernaded the transfer case because I did something stupid unlike someone I know on tw who did that a couple of years ago. I am also not fortunate enough to be able to buy at least one new vehicle of not two every year unlike someone on tw. This person I am speaking of has gone through more cars in their short time of being able to drive than I probably will in my entire life time. This same person had purchased 3 Tacomas, a Tundra and a WRX since I've known them and modded the shit out of them spending probably over $30k just in mods and then turn around and trade it in because something goes wrong and doesn't want to fix it. They constantly flaunt around what they have done to their vehicles. They constantly flaunt how much they make and the constant bonuses they get from work. I am not in the financial position to be able to afford the high end mods like some of you for example, Icons, long travel front ends, Total Chaos uca's and lca's, method wheels, an awesome sounding sound system, and the list goes on and on. I didn't even mod my Prerunner for the first 8 years of owning it because I didn't have the money to do it. I was finally able to do it, and then a year and a half later having my truck totaled while camping. While I was able to get a new to me truck because of it, I now have payments that I didn't necessarily want to have. My Prerunner had been paid off for more than 5 years at that point. I liked not having to owe a bank money and pay them interest. The Prerunner was just over 9 yrs old and had 157k at that point and had planned on having it for many more years to come. My az registration was under $100 a year at that point and now it's over $200 for registration on this truck.

Yes, I have been stuck in both trucks and had to be pulled out or off of a rock that I high centered on. I will admit that I have done stupid shit. I've only done Sycamore once and that was in the Prerunner. Yes, I did get stuck several times with that truck and pulled out. I could go out to Sycamore and probably not get stuck since I now have 4wd, but hey you never know.
I am more than willing to tow someone out of a sticky situation and pay it forward since I have been pulled out many times before. I am grateful for the help I have had in the past for being pulled out.
My point is, the back way to Crown King has changed dramatically on part of the trail within the last year or so. The part of where the miners took over the trail and you now have to go in the creek for at least a football field or more and deal with the possible flowing water from snow melt or monsoon storms is a high possibility. During the winter, it's not advised to do the trail all the way to the top if you dont have 4wd as it's known to get snow up there. As offroad vehicles go on the snow, they pack it down, and it becomes icy. I'm not the only one on this forum that has said this and I won't be the last either. I'm sure you agree with me on this.

What I am saying is that the skinny peddle is not always the best answer in certian situations. What can happen from using more skinny pedal is a higher possibility of breaking shit. Shit that will possibly cost a shit ton of money. I am one that learned this lesson earlier this year. It cost me a ton of money to fix what I broke. I ended up having to rent a truck and trailer in Show Low to tow my truck from there to Tempe because I was stupid and going too fast and broke my truck to the point I couldn't get it aligned in show low to get home. I spent hours in Show Low and didn't get home until late that night, because I was stupid.

If someone told me that it might not be best to go on a trail because I am not skilled enough, or don't have the right requirement for that particular trail, I would take the advice and I would not take my truck. I would rather ride shot gun and enjoy the trail that way than be spending hours on the trail because I broke something. I know shit happens and sometimes it's not your fault, but if you end up doing something stupid, then it's no fun being stranded on the trail possibly for hours and having to fix what broke. We can carry spares in case of something breaking, but you can't bring every possible part that could break. If that were the case, you might as well be towing another truck with you so you have doaner parts. But but come on, we know that's not realistic.

We all know this is not Nicks first truck. He could have bought a 4wd this time around, but he chose not to for whatever reason. As a result, he is more limited to what he can do compared to a 4wd truck. Yes, even 4wd trucks can get stuck, but the possibility isn't nearly as high compared to a 2wd truck. Skinny pedal for him is sometimes going to help him, but help is potentially going to break something at the same time.
I could go on and on, but I'm not. I hope you get the idea. If you don't and still have an issue with what i said in my original post.....then that's fine. I'm just trying to say that doing Crown King this time of the year is probably not the best idea, but anyone is more than free to do whatever they want. We live in a country where we are free to do a lot of things because that's how are country was founded. It may have laws governing us on what we can't do, but we still have a lot more freedom compared to other countries. In this case, we are free to do stupid shit and possibly pay the price to fix it.
Actually, JeepAndrew didn't realize that it should have been a 4wd only trail the first time we did it. If that had been the case, I would not have gone. I was glad I got to go, but it sucked that I had to be towed up every steep hill. There was another 2wd that had gone on that trip and we ended up leaving that truck behind on the trail ad we forged on. Andrew learned that trip and made it a 4wd only trail run after that. I didn't do the trail again until I had 4wd. So, before commenting on this, know the story behind it and why I really went when I should have not done it with the Prerunner in the first place. :)

I'm in the same boat when it comes to vehicles. I've been stuck to many times in my 4x4 Chevy and despise it. Being in my Prerunner Taco I won't even take a chance at possibly getting stuck.
When you refer to the back way into CK = Senator Highway? I've never been to CK myself.
I personally will be doing either 4 Peaks or Sheep's Bridge if it's not to crowded.

Haven’t been there in years. 1gens were still new if you will.

But let’s keep ourselves together and not have a dick measuring contest. We’re, the powers in charge, collectively as a group, trying to make a safe and fun environment for all. So please be constructive and positive and not piss all over other members. The trail should be 2wd friendly and a large enough to accommodate a large group. Suggestions are just that. It doesn’t mean that you’ll have to sell your house if you don’t like the trail. Im hoping that a pre-run will be done before the meet to check that the trail is able to handle all those who wish to attend and allow for any last minute changes.

    Until then...

Chill out people. Nothing has happened yet.

I don't care if you don't end up reading my whole rant, but that's how I feel. I have gotten to the point where I really try to avoid the az local threads now because I'm tired of the bull shit and go into other threads now.

I have met some awesome people on here and some great memories as well. I have been to places that I may have never gone to otherwise if it were not for this forum. There are a few I consider to be friends. I may not fit in as well as others on here since I'm one that doesn't drink, but you know what...I don't care anymore. I'm to the point of distancing myself from this group and go onto other things in life because of the constant b.s. that goes on, but It shouldn't be that way though.

I've seen some people's true colors within the last little while and I'm glad I have. It shows how they really think about things in life.

To those that have I consider friends, thanks for the memories and what you have done. To those that have helped me, I say thanks as well. I am no guru when it comes to vehicles, so the help is really appreciated.

If the group gets to large we may have to break it into smaller groups.

I’ve heard of Schnebly Hill road being 2wd friendly. I’ve never driven on it so I have no experience but it’s supposed to be pretty scenic.
