Cold night tonight, and a sliver of a moon. Out tomorrow morning with the smoke pole for a buck or doe!

I think most of us would agree this is really stretching the limits of a .223 but im thinkin this summer i may let my daughter (who will be 4 in april) start shooting my BIL's ar15 since it has an adjustable stock and hopefully will fit her (she is super tall for her age but im 6'2 and my wife is 5'10 so we expected that haha) and ive got a small field where i plan to build a shooting house and the longest shot would be maybe 75 yards. gonna have to get some trigger time in for sure to get them lungs tho.

There is nothing wrong with 223 Rem for deer in my opinion. I’ve helped several kids get started with that caliber on their first deer. I always recommend a bonded bullet or all copper like the TTSX so that if they make a bad shot high or forward it will punch through and do lots of structural damage. Train for heart/lung shots but coach the kid to keep the shots in the front half of the deer whatever they do, and most times you’ll have a dead deer and avoid the gut shot.

Knocked out the plaque for my mount today. Old fence boards make for nice "barn wood"

My boys are out for Christmas break and I'm hoping they kill a buck this year! I'll post a picture if they do
