You will need all the lift the 6112 will give you - along with cab mount chop- prob pinch weld getting knocked down - the scs wheels will push tires out and will need upper control arms to get some caster added according to others

Yeah I’m talking about this piece. That’s what appears to be loose and floating up the shaft.

well that's the top of the shock body, if that's the case then the top of your shock is blown out

That’s definitely concerning... looks like I get to swing by the dealership on the way home... awesome.

yeaaahh that's def not a good thing. The odd part is you saying the ride is still ok. So if its just a "decorative" piece then you might be ok for now just get a hold of Bilstein and see if they'll take care of it. Let us know what it turns out to be. Since you haven't noticed and oil all over the shock then the body may not be fully compromised yet. But again let the dealer take a look see

Yep that’s truck would need to be replaced, probably under warranty . The spring Is what is holding the truck up, but the front of the truck should be really bouncy On that side

Yeah I tried to pick the ride apart on my way home tonight but it really didn’t seem like it was bouncy at all. Drives better than stock. Who knows, I may get it fixed and it may drive like a caddy.

You will need notches 5/6. You will likely need a CMC. I don't think you will need UCAs really. The 6112s on those notches still ride good as the springs that come with them are made for the whole range of the shock adjustability. Mine don't clunk at 5/6.

Harvo, thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Assume 6 on drivers side and 5 on passenger or do I have that backwards?

Hoping I don’t have to do a cmc chop. Will have to research how that works.

Here ya go, CMC all depends on your wheel and tire specs. Not all 33" tire are the same but I assume you may need a CMC. Always plan for it. Very inexpensive to do. Can buy the CMC plates from most aftermarket retailers.... mobtown, relentless, pelfrybilt, about 20ish buck. Just have to find a good welder.

yea that appears to be the cap on the body. If you can see down to the shock you should be looking at the seal which is holding apparently. It would be an obvious mess if it let go and that could happen anytime - my guess. Once you verify that I would call Bilstein and get that fixed or replaced. I wouldn't drive around much like that.

Turns out it is a "scraper cover" that acts as a cleaner for the rod as it enters the shock body. the top is still sealed as seen in this picture. It's just a press fit part that came loose, I guess. Google search showed several other people having the same issue but Bilstein didn't seem to want to warranty it. I went ahead and sent the pics over to the dealer anyway to see if they'd look at it. I am considering moving up one notch setting anyway so it may be beneficial to have the top cleaned and then have this cover pushed back down during that process.

    6112 Drivers Side - 12-19-17.jpg

That would explain why the ride hasn't suffered. But it still seems like a shitty thing to happen less than 200 miles into ownership. doesn't do much cleaning when it's halfway up the rod...

well then. sucks something came loose, but same time glad its nothing super serious. Bilstein probably considers that in the same issue as coating coming off. It affects the looks but doesn't really affect the performance

Exactly my thought. Seems to be a non issue and I’ve got it documented in the case of premature shock failure. I’ll try some stuff to get it to stay seated where it should be and just let it be. Still thinking about moving up a notch...

I wouldn't accept that. That's an obvious defect. IMO

    A few quick questions.

2015 DCLB 4x4...I would like to improve my suspension, I'm not looking to gain a lot of height. I have an ARE Z series shell (200lb) and probably carry an additional 100lbs of gear.

I'm looking at the 6112/5160 combo, and I would like to lift 2" or less. I want to keep 265/70/17s because 285s aren't practical at this point for me, and if UCAs aren't necessary, great.

    My thoughts:
    6112 notch 3
    3/8" DS spacer

This should get me around 2"

I see the 5160 is recommended for 1" or less of lift, would they be okay on a 2" AAL? Or would there be a better option. Im open to all ideas on what to do on the rear as far as an AaL/spring shock setup.

    Thanks

300lbs in the rear...I would get a full leaf pack, but that's just me. I don't carry weight in the bed so an AAL works just fine.

Talk to Marie from headstrong offroad. She'll give you all the info you'll ever need in the setup.

Spacer shouldn't be needed with 6112. Go 4 driver 3 passenger and I would recommend leaf springs myself. With my Dakar leafs 300 pounds in bed they just start to move.

I have a 17 at max notch 6driver 5 pass I gained 3 inches exactly. Dakar leaf gave me about 2 inches with 200-300lbs in the bed. Lots of options and all depends on budget I would give headstrong a call too.

Did you go with the HD or medium duty Dakars?
