Basically your comment, and the non-technical , non-informative comments of everyone else, are about as entertaining as a 2nd Amendment debate when someone posts a question on how to mount a quick draw mount for their Glock. Entertaining, amusing, but not to be taken seriously.

Don't worry guys, he spent 27 months in a combat zone, he's way more qualified than the rest of us at driving while pushing buttons on the head unit.

I read a toyota statement somewhere a month or so ago that stated entune 3.0 will not be backwards compatible with 2017 and older. Only models that come with 3.0 will have the hardware to be able to use it. A new HU may work but I cant be sure on if that would be an option. If I was having to get a new HU I would move away from any Entune system and get something that plays better with android.

Not legally. Being under the influence of opiates while driving constitutes as a DUI.

Texting and driving and even now using your cell phone while driving is a ticketable offense, as it should be, in my state. I don't know how many times I've seen people get into near accidents while staring at their phone or even radio.

My opinion regarding the main departure from OP intent here:

As a physician who sees a bit of mangled flesh from time to time , a biker who is sometimes one distracted second away from heaven, and as a father, I'm quite happy that the average dumbass is nannied away from overloading their peanut brains while piloting tons of steel on wheels down the road.

Having said that, I agree with OP that sometimes those restrictions could be more sensibly effected.

It's all fun to joke about until you hear about something tragic because someone thought they were too fucking cool and that things would never happen to them. Neighbors 4 year old son was struck by a driver texting and not paying attention. Care to guess who won that battle? Grow up.

Jesus...so you're one of the turd muffins on the 10 that is most likely constantly drifting in and out of your lane because you're too busy cussing at your phone because you lack the forethought to figure out your destination prior to driving. You're willing to accept the risk of you using your phone and driving, however, I am not. Arizona already has crazy enough drivers with accidents on all major freeways daily. Stop being selfish.

Contrary to popular believe it is actually quite good to be selfish sometimes because after all no one is going to be “youish”. And for the record I never drift

Depending on state some have DWI some are DUI but DUI means under the influence of anything that can be hazardous to driving. Even taking a prescription medication can net you a DUI.

So why limit the lockout to just this menu? Other touchscreen commands; zoom, move, changing stations, etc etc are all still active while driving. And still HIGHLY distracting.

3rd Gen Tacoma HAI's cable assy. for front rear anytime camera, Navigation Override, Smartphone Mirror
I bought this premade cable assy. from here and It does what is says, it override's the Entune Nav grayed out parts so you can use them while driving and also will allow you to mirror your smartphone on to the Entune screen. Just remove the head unit and plug this cable assy. in and you have what you need unless you really want a new head unit. Just my 2 cents

    I installed the Crux AVITY-01.

It installed between the head unit and cables that plug into it. Totally plug and play, no cutting. It is activated by pressing and holding track up/down or vol up/down for 5+ seconds. So no buttons to install or wiring to run.

It tricks the head unit into thinking the truck is stopped, and allows you access to enter destination info or do anything else you can otherwise do when the vehicle is stopped.

To be able to scroll more than one time in Slacker Radio this needs to be activated.

The company sells it as a way to ad an A/V input, however I didn’t use it that way and instead use it for what I explained above.
Ivery rarely use it, and when I do it is usually my wife inputting anything, but it is a very nice feature to have and works flawlessly.

    http://www.cruxinterfacing.com/products/AVITY-01/

This should take care of what you don’t like about entune.
