Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I for one DID EMAIL ovtune. never got a response. I have to keep an eye on the manual thread because the auto thread has gone practically dead...Watching the responces reguarding order #,s and tracking is the only way to find out anything. Half ass usps informed
delivery still has Nothing on it re: my package. And I appreciate the updates from others. Max

 

I wasn't first by any means but I was order 1863, over 5k miles on the tune and loving it still

 

Did Mat ever confirm any difference with the 18 ECU? New owners seem happy with how they are driving which is a departure from the norm.

 

First post and new owner of a 2018 off road double cab manual transmission.

I have <80 miles on the truck. Is it too soon to get this upgrade (before breaking in the truck) or buy now. What gains/improved performance can I expect above stock.

Finally got mine delivered yesterday! Order #2280. Now wait until the new year to do the flash. Can’t wait.

 

Congrats on the new truck! Never too soon to tune, but I would suggest driving it stock for a while so you can better appreciate the tune when you get it. Anyone have trouble with their Guardant challenge hash returned from Mat?
Mine didn’t work. Been over a week and I’m still unable to do anything with my kit.

 

You hit "continue session" when you got the return hash? If you started a new session, that could 've the problem.

 

Yes- followed instructions to a T.
Attempted both browsing to the hashed txt file and copying and pasting.

 

yeah the 18 ecu seems to FINALLY be better. My buddy works for Toyota at the moment and was dropping off a TRD pro manual for a customer and said its a different experience than driving mine was at first, and that the 18s are closer to the way mine drives NOW after the OVtune.

 

That's weird. Mat has stated the 18 ECUS Are no difference than 17

 

I don't trust comparisons based on memory...if it's not back to back it's pretty unreliable.

 

We will just have to wait for more data then. But I'll bet it's the same ECU with maybe the TSB update already applied.

 

I would think with all the time Mat has now to finely tweek and customize this tune with our input plus his own experience driving this truck that he will be able to give much more than a minor upgrade that Toyota fully missed the mark on in the first place.

Probably the TSB is pre-applied and they adapted the TSB to the manual trucks if I had to guess? That seems the most logical because I agree 4 ecu calibrations in 3 years has got to be getting expensive when you consider the CPS recall, the Takata airbag bolt recall, more competition from Ford and Jeep launching a new scrambler within a year I can't see Toyota trying to spend more money on this truck until it gets the mid-gen facelift.

 

I will take care of all pending license / guardant registrations after Christmas. Thanks everyone
