Well it's time for some interior speaker upgrades. I'm going to redue the front speakers & tweeters as well as the rear speakers. (No sub for now) Also don't think I want a new head unit. But I do want the Ipod interface. So what setup or speakers are you guys using? What do you recommend?

I used to design this for a living and here is what I've started on my system. I haven't locked on brands yet since I just picked up my 08 Taco last week. Mosdef leave the head unit in since it is rounded and to replace it would take a lot of time and effort plus a bunch of fiberglass. Not to mention that I haven't double checked if it controls other key functions like the airbags similar to most newer vehicles.

Next, take a 4 channel amp and place it under one of the front seats. You'll need to buy a processor to tie the amp into the headunit like the RF 3sixty.2 a lil pricey but the sound quality and control is worth it. Then rewire all the speakers to that amp and if you have all the panels off, spray some dynamax to sound proof the truck. I would rec that you get MA Audio or Infinity.

The iPod/iPhone piece is easy to tie in but pricey as well for there is a device that will allow you to control it from the headunit, any major car audio place has them. If you have an iPhone, be sure that it's compatible w/ a logo on it or it won't work.

Finally buy a 8" sub (more then enough for all music and that small area) and design a custom box to hide in behind the pass side rear seat. Each sub has certain volume req's so be sure you match what's on the manual. Then tie this into a mono or 2-channel amp under the other front seat and the RF 3sixty.2. JL makes some siiick subs and amps. Try to stay away from lower end amps cause they will overheat easy.

Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, let me know.

I just finished upgrading to Boston Acoustics Pro SE 60 6-3/4" all around and love the sound. They have tweeters that you can mount in the midrange or seperate. Needed to order custom mounts as they won't fit in 6-1/2" mounts.

depends on what speakers you get. If you get the focals, you will probably need an amp. I bought some infinity 5.25 components for the front and some pioneer 6.5's for the rear and run fine without an amp. It really just depends on what speakers you get and how power hungry they are. Your best bet is to go listen and make your own choice on speakers. When demoing speakers make sure they aren't amped so you can hear what they sound like without amping.
    hope that helps.

I'm runing 6.5" Alpine type-s components in the front doors no rear speakers, An Infinity reference 10" sub in a custom box behind the backseat. All powered by an alpine Alpine MRP-F300 4 channel amp. 50 watts RMS per channel to the speakers on the front channels. Then the back channels are bridged to the sub at 150 watts RMS. Its not a powerful system or competition, but sounds great for what I use it for. Run by an alpine Alpine CDA-9886 headunit so I can hookup my ipod to it.

    oil change...

    WTF are you talking about?

they make dash kits for our trucks so you can run an new HU. they are between 20 and 50 bucks...
No, they dont control our airbags either.
with that new HU you can simply use your Ipod cable to plug into the new HU's USB port....

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Best Buy had my dash kit in stock. I think it was $25 or something like that.

    Good seperates up front...
Who cares for the back - you won't hardly notice... (good place to save money if you're looking to)

5 Channel amp... that's what i use - the only way to go for a basic upgrade that sounds nice - one less amp...

USB interface for me. i see no reason to use an ipod... i prefer a usb flash memory stick....

headunit depending upon what's in your truck and your budget...

I put Hybrid Audio Clarus 6.5'' up front and an old RF coax in the back. I would def recommend the HA components but you MUST get an amp for the components.

The question has come up time after time on which speakers to upgrade to. In the end, if you want anything more than a mediocre upgrade to your sound you really need to swap out your HU or get an external processor. The advantage of a new HU is a built in iPod interface.

 By design do you mean be a cashier @ best buy? Generally, your advice isn't wrong, but man it sucks...
