No, pour 1/3 can into your crank case to get it into the oil.

What is the purpose of using Seafoam in your motor oil? Won't it thin out the oil and cause it to have less viscosity?

I use it in the gas tanks of my ATV and snowmobiles to prevent the ethanol from seperating and gumming up the carbs during storage.

Dude change your plugs. You're suppose to do it every 30k. Your plugs are probably seized up in your engine so be ready to do some heavy torquing and hope that one doesn't brake off in there. When you purchase new plugs make sure you purchase them from toyota, dont buy any after market plugs.

    people still do this?

no need to do this in fuel injected motors. especially with how clean todays air and fuel systems are.

It's suppose to clean up the built up sludge. You're right about the oil getting thinner, resulting in increased valve noise/engine noise. I usually dont drive more than 50miles after adding the Seafoam in the crank case. I've read in other places that people drive for 300-500miles with seafoam in the crank case, which i think is far too long. Whatever seafoam is going to get, it will get within the first 50-100 miles. Driving any more than that will only hurt your engine.

Seafoaming an engine was very common back when engines were carbd, fuel was crappier quality, and oil was not synthetic often poorer quality and thicker.

The pupose of running sea foam into an engine is to clean out excess sludge and grime in the nooks and crannies of a motor. A modern OHV,OHC,FI motor runs very clean today due to emissions regs, and much better engineering. Not to mention the fact that synthetic oil in engines is becomming the norm nowadays and does not break down like the crap from over a decade ago. Sludge is almost non existant in new motors, and there is certainly not enough to have to seafoam it.

And i wont even get into the debate and reasons why seafoaming can harm your engine.

If you really want to clean the engine up, tear it down and do it right.

    Just my $0.02...

Myself, I stick to running synthetic oil (castroly gtx syntec) and 91 octane at quiktrip or chevron. I redline it every day too... so there's nothing left to burn up :p

You're right, in some aspects. Regardless of oil quality and engineering your engine will build sludge. Due to dirt coming due to dirty air filters, bad gass, and other elements. I will agree that the sludge build up in your engine is less than in earlier times, but there is sludge non the less. Still dont believe me, next time you pop your hood remove the cap on the oil filler. Look at it, smell it, then smell you engine, the same crap that is on your cap is in your engine. There may be not as much on your engine but it builds up over time and definately starts affect performance, especially at 87k.

98% of the population does not have the tools or equipment to do this.....

Tearing down a motor simply to clean it (other than on a track car) is like me saying "if you really want to wash your truck, shed the clearcoat and take it to a shop to re-apply it" because after all, washing it does nothing to remove the scratches or most of the wear and tear of the clear/paint, It just makes it look pretty.

Not trying to start anything, i just dont see the practicality of tearing down your engine just to make it run a little better. I can however see the practicality of adding a solution to take SOME of it out.

    just my 2 cents tho.

In regards to me being "Wrong" about my comment, It's all good...it's just something the "internet shade tree mechanics" use to think they are really doing something to help when in fact they can not PROVE it is doing anything to enhance their performance or the longevity of the motor.

Carry on with your needless time wasters and tinkering. :)

The question is....... can you prove that it doesnt do anything?

and if people have spare time and decide to use it seafoaming their rides, its not your place to tell them its a waste. Thats like telling people who wheel their rigs that their wasting their time...... arent they just climbing ricks and hills? theres a road right there that will take you to the other side.....

anyhow, back to the show. :)

after searching the web for 10 or so minutes, all i could find was positive reviews, with an occasional 1 or 2 saying "i didnt notice anything"....... and that quote "i didnt notice anything" hardly proves that it in fact DIDNT do anything.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree until we find an actual test where the seafoam is used and it either:

    A. Doesn't show ANY results after the motor was inspected Before AND after

    B. Shows fuel stabilization and deposit reduction after inspected Before AND after

As I said I agree there there is still some sludge in todays engines just not enough in my opinion to seafoam it. I have heard horror stories about seafoaming, and I have heard people like you who swear by it.

As fot this smell, you are talking about and looking under the oil cap. Please elaborate. The smell as in motor oil? The cap sometimes has milky gunk on it due to condensation, and short frequent commutes that people drive.

I've only used it in the gas tank. I use it in lawn mower, snowblower, motorcycle and my truck.
I've never heard of putting through the vaccuum lines.

Jez, some people just don't get sarcasim...

Though seriously without doing a before/after tear down of just the oil pan and pulling the valve covers off... I really can't believe it'll do much of anything but induce more wear by diluting the oil. However even the sbc running dyno oil looked clean as hell when I pulled the oil pan off...
