Thank you, because couldn’t even. Disc brakes came out like a few days before drum anyway. Both 1900’s

Most of the heavy equip I work on has drums. DOT’s scientists have proclaimed that drums are pretty fuckin adequate when stopping a vehicle carrying a bazzilion pounds of dirt. So.

    I’m sure you’re right.
Ford, Chevy and GM, along with Nissan, Toyota, Dodge, Jeep, and everybody else will be putting drums and shoes on all of their light trucks soon.
Then you can experience how great they are!

You’ve assisted in changing my mind.
I’ll be looking for a front disc to drum conversion for my new Tacoma!
4 wheel drums are gonna be awesome!

Please don't bring logic and sound engineering principles into this forum. They have no place here.

It's all about marketing man. Perception is not always reality. The fact is a combination of front discs and rear drums is perfectly fine for reliable and durable brakes for these trucks. Stopping distances are just fine too. I know you want to argue but it's tough to win against fact. Merry Christmas man.

    DOT scientists. Very funny!

The same kind of people that designed the perfect space shuttle that blew up, nuclear plants that blew up in Japan and Russia and many other disasters throughout history.

I like to have rational conversations, not debates!

Pressure washing can drive water and grit into the wheel cylinder boots, axle seals and blow the inspection covers across the driveway.

Fine for the inside of the drum, definitely don't use a wire wheel on the brake components themselves where most of the grit accumulates.

A guy with a truck. Like you, unless I’m mistaken. But apparently you should apply for chief engineer at yota. You won’t.

You judge someone by this thread?

I couldn’t apply for an engineer position. I don’t have that education or ability.
    I don’t even come close!
Everyone screws up in life. I have many times in my decisions!
    Just like Toyota.

    Remove rear tire.
Remove drum. May need hammer to help.
    Clean with brake clean.
If the wheel moves/ spins to freely there is a rubber plug on the back. Remove it.
Then grab an angled tool up lift up/ or diwn on the spline to tighten the brake adjuster. Little at a time. Spin wheel to take away some of the free spin. Put plug back on. Move to other side and repeat.

Edited to remove an aborted post started before I understood what I was replying to.

The first space shuttle blew up because nasa and management ignored the engineers who built the boosters who told them not to fly it in the cold weather.

I watched where I aimed the pressure washer and kept it a long ways from the parts. The ones I've cleaned were just dusty so I didn't need to hold the pressure washer an inch from the parts. A hose with a nozzle would have worked as well.

Just got my vehicle back from Rick Johnson after a day without it because my dealership refused to warranty it due to mud being in the drum.

    Let me back track...

A few days after making this post, my brakes went out completely on my way to work. And by completely, I mean there was no pressure in the brake pedal and pushing it down to the floor would do nothing whatsoever. I made it the other 3 miles to my workplace with my hazards on in the right lane using the e-brake and downshifting to slow down. I had it towed to the dealership where the technician spent nearly 2 hours just to get underneath the right rear drum. Upon opening it, he discovered that everything was obliterated (13k miles on the truck). He determined what had most likely happened was the wheel cylinder inside that drum began to leak and all the fluid in my system came out of it. Scary. Well, after being at the dealership for nearly 4 hours, I had still not been told if this would be covered under warranty. The service advisor came out with his manager who gave me some crap explanation as to why this is not covered under warranty. (Let's just say they are not off-road friendly). He proceeded to show me photos on his phone of irrelevant parts of my truck, such as a cracked fog light, a missing rear bumper cap, a pinstripe on the side door..I got pissed and told him all this has nothing to do with the god damn brake and if they weren't going to cover it under warranty, to please get my truck down off the lift and park it outside where I will take care of it. The service manager agreed and handed me a paper with an estimate for $1,168.53 in repairs "just to get it back to factory specs to THEN see what caused the brakes to go out". Long story short, I had it towed from the dealership to (probably the greatest) Rick Johnson shop a few miles down the road. I saved a couple hundred bucks, and was even told that many of the parts the dealer was wanting to replace did not need to be replaced at all, only cleaned and lubed. If you're ever in SWFL stay away from Germain Toyota...
