Sliders you can step on...... getting out.

    Alrighty gents and ladies....

I'm possibly in need of some decent sliders that double as mini running boards. Just big enough that you can easily step on them getting out of the truck. I could get some straight running boards, but if I'm going to put something on them, it's going to be as functional as possible. I recall getting stock sliders when I bought my FJ, thinking I'd probably never 'need' them. But, I did a 3 point back out of Sonic once and bumped up against the curb. I knew there was an island with a little grass there. Easy solution, right? Right foot = go. Well, before I knew it we were up and over a landscaping boulder. I came down hard enough to dimple the front quarter panel just forward of the natural crease. 4-High and I tucked my embarrassed tail and crawled out of there snacking on my fries.

Fast forward to now in the Tacoma. My wife's figured out that she drags the back of her leg on the body panel getting out of the truck. In, not so much. That'll make a mess of any clothes if it's wet or raining. My solution? "Hey Honey, I bet I could put some sliders on here with enough room so you could step on them getting out, thus keeping your dress or pants off the wet body panels. What do you think?" She's onboard but they need to have a platform.

I've looked at all the usual suspects; all-pro, demello, pelfry, mobtown, etc. it's hard to tell from pictures how much room and how functional they'd be for the stated purpose. Anybody here have personal experience they'd be willing to share regarding space and stability if stepping on them on the way out of the truck? Really interested in bolt on only.

    TIA

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/

I just installed some sos concepts (@EddyRRT ) and they stick out enough for steps and door dings. I wouldnt want it any further out but i bet if you messaged him he could extend them another 3” for almost a full step. All he has to do is use longer arms from sliders to attachment points. Powdercoated they dont scrape the legs like my last bedlined ones did. Thats my recommendation. They are bolt to frame and require no drilling. Most slider companies sell plates for them too to prevent rocks from kicking up theough it and that sounds like what your looking for

I have a set of allpros and I can confidently say I scrape my legs on them more with than without them.

I have the RCI they work fine but if I had to buy again I'd be getting the @Mobtown Offroad ones.
Way better design and mounting system

I have Mobtown bolt on with kickout. I bought second hand but if I was buying new I’d get the option of 10* and filler plates. With my truck being lifted and these being tucked up so high they aren’t really that great of steps... but they are purpose built protection and do that extremely well.

Pretty much all sliders will stick out enough to stand on. We've added a little bit to ours since our original design to negate the need for changing the angle. Helps with them being a step and protects the door better without sticking out so much that they get hung up.

I love them, the daughter uses them more as steps than me. I guess I’m used to just “sliding” out. I may add some sort of filler plate, but I got them for sliders and for that they’re awesome. But to the op, they do stick out enough to be used as steps and can be use to step on while you’re getting out... but everyone is built differently and I’m just a little guy at 5’ 6”.... so it’s all subjective I guess!

I'm only 5'8". Everybody is different but I don't personally need a step to get in my truck. Even with a lift and 33's, Tacomas don't sit that high. I just grab the steering wheel and step in. They are more useful as a step for putting the kids in their car seats though.

I don't think the sliders function well as a step, since they're at nearly the height of the interior floor. If anything, it's now a longer/wider reach to get into the truck. Don't get me wrong. You can totally stand on them, but it's just not very useful as step into the truck.

On the other hand -- they're great for standing on when I'm trying to reach onto the top of the cab (cleaning, putting stuff on top, getting stuff off, etc.).

Have u looked at C4Fabrications? We share the same concerns. I think these are perfect, and I dig the trd 4x4 text on the plates.

Ours sit 5" out from the door sill edge, and are available with filler plates for the top. Make a very nice step with full slider functionality and clean looks :)

    Ours sit out 5.001" HA!

J/K. I actually don't know how much they sit out past the door sill. I was more interested in making a good set of sliders, but it's cool that everyone wants to use them as steps too.

LOL, 5" give or take a lil. Lots of different opinions and feelings toward what looks cleaner and functions best (and functions best for each persons intended use and needs) out there when it comes to sliders. We try and make our function best all around in our experiences, then offer a few tweaks and styles(kickouts, fillers, etc). Not everyone is the same we've found.

Yea. It's tough designing something most people like. Everyone has a different opinion. I just try to make something I like, something I'm proud of and usually other ppl like it too.

I love my bolt-on Mobtown sliders. They are solid AF. You could always get them at 0deg (rather than 10-15deg up), if you want them to be more of a step.

Mine are 15deg up if IIRC, and I stand on them sometimes getting out. Also, if shoes dirty when getting in or something you can also use them--but I normally skip over it on the way in.

Thanks everyone! The use case is really to step on when exiting. I agree that skipping over them on the way out makes the original problem even worse. I'd have to get her buy-in that she's committed to using them in inclement weather.

Mobtown, so we could get zero degree if we wanted to?

Music to my ears. Mine are in the great back-order list from the black Friday sale, and I've really been curious about their usefulness as a step because I don't want my sliders to stick straight out.
Any chance of a rough surface option in the door area for stepping instead of some sort of after market solution?
