I have a 2014 Tacoma and my entune system (XM Radio but no GPS) seems to be dying. Had a stereo guy review the system to check the speakers but they were fine.

The radio while on at a level of 15 volume will get louder and then softer, then some of the speakers will cut out and come back on.

From what I have read online, if you buy an aftermarket unit you will lose some of the features the OEM version has like use of the USB/Audio connection and bluetooth.

Seems like my best option is to replace the oem head unit. Thoughts on options?

Whatever you read online is wrong. Aftermarket radios can retain all OEM features, and then some.

I have a Kenwood DDX9702S, and I have use of my steering wheel controls, as well as my USB port. There's tons of threads on here about audio.

I have a post with part links and everything in this thread

No way man, go for it, search on a site like Crutchfield to see what you like and compare between models. The sky is the limit, like was said before you can retain all your old features and gain some in the process.

I replaced my factory radio pretty quickly because I never could keep the bluetooth working. I put in a Pioneer double din, kept my XM, steering wheel controls, factory USB port and got working bluetooth, an easier to operate radio and added a DVD player (can also add navigation)! Note on the DVD player, they all have a wire you have to tie into the parking brake and all require a specific sequence to allow the DVD player to work. For instance the Pioneer requires seeing the parking brake at start, then the parking brake go away then return before allowing the DVD player to work. You can make a circuit to defeat this or buy it pretty cheap on ebay. I don't condone watching DVD's while driving at all, but its handy while traveling with a passenger. My girlfriend is always against changing things and made some remark about me changing the radio out on a new truck, when I put a DVD in when we went on a trip, that shut her up!

If you do the installation yourself you'll see two manufacturers for the dash piece, Metra or Scosche. In this case I liked the Scosche dash kit a lot better in regards to fitment. The Metra kit came from Crutchfield and had a bigger gap than I'd like and had plastic mounts along with a matte finish. The Scosche kit had a metal mount, better fitment around the radio and was gloss like the factory face.

I've seen these. They look really nice but I would never spend that much on one.

I changed out my factory head unit (no nav) a couple years ago with a Kenwood DNX892 with nav, while at it replaced all speakers with Focal components and added JL audio amp and sub. Maintained all factory options.. :)

The only reason I'd consider this unit is because it says its compatible with JBL system. I tried going a cheaper route ordering all parts necessary to keep steering wheel and BT controls and still couldn't install.

I like this unit because it has the ability to have a camera, gps, touchscreen, bluetooth, and dvd movie..also going to upgrade the entire speaker system to most likely this one.. cost is about $1000 for speakers and sub.. but hey, you only live once.. and besides I like the look of the 2008, 09, 10 models over the 3rd gen so I wont sell mine for a while.. going to really trick it out..with electronics..
