I had this old tool box I was going to throw out and decided to turn it into a welding cart. It was the perfect size to fit two bottles for when I start learning how to Tig weld. Added some new caster wheels, welded a handle and a section for the bottles. Gave it a fresh coat of paint and I’m pretty happy with how it came out. Only thing I had to buy was the wheels. Not bad. I also got a piece of 4’x2’x1/4”steel from work for a new welding table.

Figure I give a little update.

Remember I don't know what I'm doing. I just jump in with both feet and learn on the way.

I took this holiday week and decided I needed to take out the cage and remove the bed. The reason why is because I need to figure out how I'm going to set up the bed for the 32 gal jeep speed fuel cell, where the dual batteries are going to be located and where I'm going to place the shocks for the links.

After going to Moab and seeing how the tire carrier worked. I've been thinking about a different tire carrier. I saw a tire carrier from a buddy's truck @DIRT YOTA that is being built by @DTFtacoma (credit of the idea). I'll do some changes to the design but the idea of stacking the dual tires in the rear will help with climbing over obstacles better. Giving the rear a flat bottom and angled upward just how my rear glass is cut.

I'll be able to design a whole new bed cage that will tie into the cab cage and engine cage. At least that's the idea. I'll be gutting the inside of the truck. So the rear sets are gone because the rear of the cab might have to be modified for the upper links. We shall see. I'm just going to build some custom storage boxes for the back of the cab after the trucks built.

I also noticed that I have a lot of corrosion all over my tail lights and wiring from all the mud being tossed back there. I'm going to make some custom housings for the tail lights today out of aluminum. I wish I had my tig setup so I can weld it. But i'll take it over to insain and tig it there after the holidays.

I know everyone wants to see the trailing arms that I designed. Soon for sure. I'm all set up and ready to weld them.

Here are some pics of the truck now.

It doesn’t look like I’m going to get done before start of work on weds. These tail light housing are taking a lot of time. yesterday my brake wasn’t working for me so I had to start over today and cut different pieces and bend it all with a vice and hammer. But progress is happening. So here’s what I got done so far. I sill have holes to drill and figure out a way to mount it to the bed.

Well it isn’t pretty but it gets me back on the road. I had to improvise a lot and reuse a lot of the cage. Good thing it will all get chopped off. I really don’t like how small the screws are for the tail lights. It was such a pain to get them lined up. I will look into trying to use a larger screw by drilling out the hole. Maybe. I’ll see. The tail light boxes came out great. I cut out a rectangle hole in the bottom of the box just to get the plug through. I added a rubber grommet to seal off the hole and hold the wire harness. When it’s time I’ll make a bolt on mount for it and tie it into the new cage. I just welded them on for now.

I put the nuts on the outside of the box so if one strips I can grind it down and replace it with a new one. But like I said I would rather use a size 10 screw instead of a 8.
