Don't spend the time and money to build on a stock axle, just be patient and one will come up. Got mine for $100. No use in doing all that work just to do it again later on a different axle.

I didn't find out I needed one, until about a week and a half ago lmao. I had a guy in SD do all the work I just told him I wanted to go SUA. And he said he couple do it and gave me a quote haha. He said it would work with 2" spacers, I ended up finding out on my own in this thread a lot of guys run a wider axle. I get the truck back this week. So the works already done, plus I couldn't have it not driveable any longer

Yeah, researching is definitely key before you just give your truck out to be worked on. You should know exactly what you want piece by piece. I even made some CAD drawings for mine. So the fabricator knows what I want visually as well, so he can make adjustments as needed. Just sending your truck out to be Sua'ed without enough info or parts to work off of is going to result in not what you ordered if you know what i mean.

I mean I knew exactly what I wanted. Down to the parts and how I wanted it done. Didn't find much about the wider axles. But he was a pretty well known guy and I have no clue how to weld haha. so I hit him up we talked for a week and he said he knew exactly what I wanted and would be a piece of cake. Defiantly didn't go into it blind. The axle thing just was missed in research

A lot of people build on stocks axle then upgrade later... I don’t think anyone in this thread built everything all at once, race kit, cage, links, axles

LT is a process for most of us, except some of the big ballers.

You’ll be fine on stock axle for now, not the most ideal, but go have fun with it, upgrade when you can.

A lot of people get caught up in having the best of the best of everything and not using the truck in the process. Get out there and have fun, fuggit.

Speaking of first gen tundra axles, does it matter if you use an ABS housing vs a non ABS?

I don't believe so, you should just be able to plug off the abs holes. Could be wrong though. @whitetoblack ?

Not if you don't want abs.

I just wasn't sure if they necked down on the end like they do on first gen Tacoma's. I've been trying to look for a non-ABS housing Tundra but the only one I've ever seen was on our personal 02 Tundra. Never could find one in a junkyard that wasn't ABS. Wasn't sure if it mattered or not for internals.

Isn't there something in those electronics in all these trucks that if you don't carry it over to the new axels will cause the ECU to think something is broke or malfunctioning and make the truck go into limp mode?
I'm actually currious because I have to replace the whole rear end on my third gen taco and have been discussing this with nexgen offroad and with Currie and everyone seems to say
"There is something in there like a tone ring or a abs sensor that has to transfer over or the truck freaks out"

Not on first gens. You get a light, that's about it afaik. Maybe on 03-04, can't say for sure with that...

You'll have to get the abs kit if you swap bearings, other than that I believe it would be the same as any other swap. Does your truck have abs?
