Not downing you for doing what you did AT ALL. No way in hell I could ever stick with a 4 cyl either. And different people have different ways they choose to spend their time. I get that you didn't have time, tools, and/or resources to do a swap.

But then again, you aren't one that is suggesting someone shouldn't do the swap either. :proposetoast:

In the time frame that it takes to do a 4wd AND engine swap I could just work more (im allowed OT) and come out on top selling my truck and buying what I want. So before you yet your panties in a wad for some people it is "cheaper".

Gotta remember how people make/spend money and value it is subjective as is sentimental value.

But there has to be some hard and fast rule right.... Lol

For some people, swaps and stuff work time and money wise, fuck I've done three with friends now and it's a blast but we aren't usually on a time crunch and we shop it out like cheapskates. If I wanted to have my truck rebuilt the week after I flipped it it would have been cheaper in money and time to buy another newer truck with less miles and that alone would have been worth it.

The problem is... and you can use the search fuction to see for yourself (on this forum and just about every other Toyota forum). Just about every time someone asks (even specific questions) about the swap, some wise guy (or more like MULTIPLE wise guys) pipes up with the "sell it and buy a 4x4" line, and it devolves from there.

This makes finding information on the swap annoying, to say the least. And actually much more difficult than it would be if people who don't actually have usefull information to give would decide NOT to add their $.02.

When someone is asking the, specific, questions, and/or they are actually doing the swap, the "sell it and buy a 4x4" line is stupid and unhelpful. Don't you think the person doing the swap has already looked at the options and decided "their time" is more valuably spent on doing the swap than trading their truck for an older one, or taking on a new truck payment?

I agree that the "sell it and get a 4x4" line isn't inherently helpful but many times it ends up being decent advice. Many people on TW don't do much automotive work or underestimate the amount of work that'll be required, not everything is bolt in or can be done without specialty tools that leave the project with a high cost of entry. But yes I agree it devolves from there, it only needs mention once. Would you perhaps agree that coming in blasting them for the comment instead of asking the meaning behind it also leads to devolution as well?

Toyota's are a weird market, some places they cost a lot, some places their dirt cheap, and some places they've already rusted back into the earth. I bought the truck that I'm driving now (running and driving as well as registered) one model year newer than my last for 2K, the deals are out there, it was a CraigsList find. It wasn't exactly what I wanted so I cannibalized it with my truck that I flipped so in a way I screw the entire equation up but it still didn't cost that much to literally buy a truck and then swap it, so just buying the truck doesn't inherently mean higher price.

You bring up another reason why I plan on doing the swap. Finding a Double Cab, 4x4, V6, Auto, 1st gen is damn hard to do here in Central Valley CA. And when one comes up it either has really high miles or a stupid high price tag.

And again, there's the sentimental value. I didn't even like my truck when I bought it, I hated the color first of all, my wife HATED it. (Might have had something to do with me buying it without talking to her about it... lol).

But 13 years of camping, hunting, hauling materials around doing projects, etc, etc,... now I love my truck, even the ugly faded Impulse Red.

And now, my boys are older, they can wrench on it with me, so now we can do some crazy stupid shit like lifting it, hanging lights on it and/or pulling out the trans and swapping in a trans and TC.

Fuses would be a good place to start not hard to short out a bulb connector if one of the leads on the led base was sideways or something.

True if it isn't plugged in all the way or it is turned down too far nothing will come on.

Think that one is an interior fuse should be printed on the fuse cover plate.

After two pages of ranting and raving you are still missing key components to this whole thing.

    1. I said it mostly in jest

    2. It's not just a 4x4 swap. It's an engine swap as well. You know. The post I responded to that made you go full nuclear.

Taking the costs associated with a 4x4 and engine swap, the advice of selling the truck and buying one that is a 3.4 4x4 is often sound advice. From an economical perspective.
