    Hey guys new to the thread and new to the tacoma. Came out of a 17 F250 lariat (had for 3 months) and into a 2018 Trd OR. Like the title says looking to upgrade the tires. I drive a decent amount (30k a year) and rarely go off road. Just looking for a better look without killing the power or gas mileage. Just ordered trd pro wheels and probably will only be going to a 265/75 r16. Narrowed it down to Cooper st maxxx or toyo open country a/t II. Any advice, opinions, or criticism is greatly appreciated. Oh and pictures of any similar setup would be amazing. Merry Christmas!

    I’ve got the st maxx they last good but have a little rod noise free wear... it doesn’t bother me just a warning. My mileage hovers riggtbaround 18-19 but I’m in a 2.7

    Trd cold air intake and oil and radiator caps. 2657516 bfg ko2s. Bak revolver 2 tonneau cover, bed mat and extender. Mud flaps. Husky liner floor mats. Locking tail gate. Led bed lights. Carbon black tailgate Tacoma insert. Red Tacoma dash insert. Winco Infrared reducing window tint. Predator steps.
    Very happy with my ko2s since I'll be driving a lot of hwy miles too. Good combo tire. If you are mostly off road and won't put a lot of hwy miles on them, I'd go with the Cooper maxx or pro. Both get noisy as they wear down on the hwy but are awesome looking and great off road tires.

    So depends on your needs.

    Is having 2 wheelset an option? If I were driving that much, I’d hold on to the stock wheels and tires, and switch to your other wheels for adventures. Then you can get something more aggressive (if you will be wheeling).

    But if that’s not an option, I’d get something more road oriented. Like Michelin AT2. Or Bridgestone Revo.

    Welcome to TW. Take some time to look around. Tons of info on tires and wheels here.

    And don't forget, there are very few real differences in the years since the 16's, so most any 3rd gen questions have been asked and answered here.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
    I just bought new wheels for my taco. Going to be putting on Michelin defenders in stock size. Long tread ware warranty, and known quality I have come to trust from Michelin. No off roading here, just 50 miles per day to/from work on the highway.

    No experience with either of your selections. I also came from an F-250 and ran BFG KO's until they were replaced with Michelin LTX AT2's which should last you 60k-80k miles with regular rotations.

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Based on you usage requirements, I'd go Michelin Defenders. After wearing out the OE tires.

    As far as posing to look tough, you're on your own. Looks are subjective anyway.

    Where do you live, what type of driving conditions do you deal with? For me best turned into summer and winter tire/wheel sets. Plain Jane highway tires tend to get 2+ miles per gal better. (I commute 30k per year so 2 mpg adds up) Winter tires I like BFG ATKO as they are snow rated. Having tires with snow rating is important for me as I’ve had to go to work during “ state of emergencys” when non rated tires were prohibited. With them I’ve been able to crawl through any snow with my 02 Tacoma.

    loved the F250 well I should say the look... Felt like I was driving a school bus. Couldn't make a u-turn, fit in some parking garages, or fit in a human size parking spot anywhere. I don't pull anything so it was overkill. Just bought it bc the accountant said buy something expensive before the end of the year. It wasn't for me.

    If u are looking for an aggessive look but want to keep mpg's and avoid road nose look into the falken wildpeak at3w in P rating! I' about 5k and very happy with them don' see any notcible mpg loss or any road noise on my 265/75R16's

    Icon stage 4 lift, CBI T3 bumpers, front and rear w/swing our tire, 2 jerry can holders and camp table, full CBI skid, Snug Top Rebel canopy. Nitto trail grapplers on ATX Baja wheels times 5. Old taco totalled new taco on tap!
    I had Nitto Terra Grapplers on my old one, they were great on the road, pretty quiet, my new truck has the Trail Grappler and they are pretty noisy and the psi pressure is up to 80 psi. The truck doesn't get nearly as good fuel economy as my old one. It does have a lot more weight on it than the last one, going to get rid of some stuff on it and that will make it a lot lighter. I am running them at 45 psi currently, going to stop in at a tire store and ask for ad.vice on tire pressure and fuel economy. Hope that helps

    Are you saying that's what they're rated for or did you actually air them up to 80psi? If it's the latter then...o_O

    No, I am running them at 40 psi, working like a dog at work this week, ice is keeping us from selling any cars, so I am sitting here with nothing to do, like a lazy dog, just chilling!
