I did not know PROS came in red. I thought it was just white, cement, and now blue.

Wow, glad you all are okay! I was rear ended in my 2016 Taco right before Thanksgiving and not nearly as bad. The frame was toast and the total damage came to be 19,500. So it was a total loss. I went and bought a 2017 even before I had the insurance check in my hand. Really safe truck.

I'll ask. Looks like the Smith system is for commercial drivers? What can I learn as an average joe?

I’m not an instructor like @Shagger, but it’s all about proactive driving. The “5 keys” are basic habits, but there’s much more to it. They are:

    Aim high in steering
    Get the big picture
    Keep your eyes moving
    Make sure they see you
    Leave yourself an out

So glad that you and your family were saved by your Tacoma, I am sure it will be a total loss. My truck was hit while parked on the side of the road. 04 Ford escape clipped the left side of my bumper at about 40 mph. Broke the drive shaft off at the transmission. I wasn't sure if it was totaled. I told the adjuster that if they put it back together that I would be pursuing a diminished value claim for the value of the damage and that I want it repaired to pre loss condition. They totaled mine. Good luck with your truck and I hope you and your family have a speedy recovery!

DUDE!!!! This is such terrible news. Glad to hear everyone is OK, as that's the important thing. Feel terrible for you as you've only had that thing a couple months. Keep us posted on if it's going to be repaired or totaled and how you're going to move forward.

Where was this at? I heard quite a few accidents get paged out on 55/74 around the bypass.

Again, glad everyone is safe and sound, as this sounds like it could've been much much uglier.

Our RAV4 is Barcelona Red and has been hit twice (and repaired), 3 times if you count the deer rolling into the side of it that I refused to let land on hood......we are looking for different color one. Red = BS magnet.
