they are very good for the price. handhelds are limited to 5watts output so range wont match a 50watt mobile unit but just using it on the trail they work great. i would recommend an external antenna for in truck use but even without they work well. i run wouxoun handhelds and they're no better than those baofengs for a 1/4 the price.

I could come pull you out with the Highlander so you can see what a real set of tires can do.

Didn't that come with the Michelin LTX?

I know you're mostly talking chit about the BFG KO2s but two days ago was the first time I ever got to take them out on snowy roads. I was very impressed. Great traction, incredibly stable. Even tracked very well in 2wd trying to push the rear end out on purpose.

Far better than the original BFG ATs I ran for nearly 20 years (multiple sets, wise asses).

Ok so aside from being down right fucking confusingly written, are they saying even 4wd/awd will have to chain up? Or am I reading that wrong?

No it's still the same law/rule. They are just saying they're actually going to enforce it more for passenger vehicles.

If you have 4x4 or AWD with adequate snow/winter tires you're fine.

My truck with BFG ATs is fine.

That’s for code 15 tracton laws. If they actually call for a code 16 then everyone must have chains or an alternative reactions device (snow socks, etc)

Well that would be nice if they ever call for code 16. I've never seen it happen in my 25 years of living here.

I always looked into those snow socks just in case. I don't see how they would be good traction in snow but they obviously work and have great reviews.

Yeah... Apparently they are "good" in snow. My standards are a bit higher after running the duratracs twice. But the two times I've driven on snow i have not been thrilled, and I'd rather drop the money than get stuck. I turned off traction control trying to get up a little hill with a few inches of snow yesterday since it was kicking in and was not something i should've had to use 4wd for. Not gonna cut the mustard.

I think they are better on pavement in the snow since they did handle the little bit i encountered better. Loose snow and over gravel roads I'm not willing to take the chance of sliding off the road or getting stuck in a few inches.

Those tires won't be the reason you get stuck in the snow.
