Body damage and insurance company fix

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by PDXKid, Dec 22, 2017.

?

Should I try to escalate the situation higher up the chain in order to hopefully get a new panel?

Not surprised about any of this, OP. Getting scammed by your own insurance company. Good luck bud. Keep us updated with what happens. I'm also on the "No Bondo" train thats speeding through this thread.

It's a good ol fashioned "grind off"! I'm trying to grind them down, they're trying to grind me down. Ugh.

Claim your truck is undrivable and you need a rental until it is fixed. And by fixed I mean without bondo. A prospective week or two of car rental fees might persuade them that it will be cheaper to just fix it right so that you go away.

It sounds like time is on your side then.
Tell them that YOUR shop will do the work, but the guy that does the bondo/body filler work is on vacation for a few weeks. You could wait for him to get back...or for a little bit more they can just replace the panel get you back on the road.

“Diminished Value” said it every chance you get while you’re on the phone.

What state do you live in? It’s law in most states that you can take your vehicle wherever YOU choose. Not where the insurance company chooses.

Apparently it's now fixed. With Bondo. I wasn't vocal or fast enough.

If they did the work without your concent, they are in even bigger trouble.

They had the ok to fix it so that part is legit. I called a couple of times to raise concern and I don't think I made myself clear. I handled it poorly if my end goal was to get them to install a new panel. Thanks for everyone's honest opinion. I live and I learn.

I'd hit them hard with diminished value. Could be worth $1,000 or more now since they bondo'd it.

My wifes fender bender ended up being $5,000 because they imported the panel from Volvo.

I still got $500 diminished value because it could show up on stupid CarFax. And the repair was done the right way.

@InfernoTonka Can you tell me more about the "diminished value" claim you reference? My understanding is that would be something I pursue at the time that I sell it. According to Progressive, they don't report things to CarFax.

A deminished value claim needs to be paid out before the claim is closed.

Deminished value is paid out as part of your claim. It’s not paid out when you sell it. When a claim is closed its closed. You can’t go back and reopen it 10 years down the road when you sell.

Contact your insurance company immediately about this. You might be SOL if the truck is back in your posession and the claim is final.

Unless you got your request in writing that you wanted a replacement and no bondo, you just got stiffed.
