I'm just picturing a 1995 with a 2017 front end and it's blowing my mind how ridiculous that sounds.

I thought about a 4x4 swap, I guess it would be cheaper to sell my truck and start over  its not just this thread but the actual help has gone downhill on TW. I said the same thing about the "search noob" response that a lot of people give. Just remember for YEARS to come when people search Google the dumb ass responses will be the results they find. There are a few people here that think the way they did it is the only way to do it, and the funny part is they sound dumber than the guy looking for help and input

For actual information its completely possible. This guy is basically the bible on 1st gen 4x4 swap and tons of information here. He also swapped to a manual trans

    Man, this thread gets crazy.
If someone wants to do a conversion why can't everyone just help and keep negative responses to themselves.
Some people like working on their trucks, just like some people like to waste time and money on video games. The video game people don't think it is a waste of money or time but just like everything else everyone has their own opinion.
Try helping you just might learn something. A lot of people just go pay someone for a trail rig and others like to build them. Just because it is not the way you would do it does not mean it is wrong. A lot of people on here don't know how to do anything to their truck and always say go buy it or take it to a shop. If that's your thing that is fine but don't tell someone they are wrong because they don't do it your way. I would rather be on the trail with someone that built his rig rather than someone that bought their rig and does not know shit.

Plot twist: the guy that said it has the best write up on TW for swapping a 98-00 clip to a 96-97 clip which I'm following for my truck. The thing started when someone said that they were going to convert to 4x4 and then 4 banger to V6. The guy making the comment didn't know who he was talking to - the young guy who will eventually be the chief engineer on the 6th gen Tacoma. That said I told him to do the engine swap first and then 4x4 after since you'll only be swapping driveshafts and other ancillary stuff once, but as has been said, "Can't fight against the youth."

Sorry if this was answered elsewhere but what range do you guys have? Trying to decide between the 10-150 or the 25-250. Aren't spark plugs around 15 so would that be about the low end I need? Thanks.

10-150 is better because it will fit in more places and the only bolt that really can't be done with it is the crank pulley bolt. That said I have both since I have to do that one eventually and also a decent Amazon purchased inch pound one.

Perfect. Ordered. I'm slowly building up the toolkit. I've been using a 3/8" drive torque wrench from HF and hoping this will be a bit of an upgrade range and accuracy wise.

I've had that one for three years with great results - I recommend getting some 1/2" drive deep sockets since you'll come across enough things that need to be torqued that require deep sockets. Anything with 10,12,14,17,19,21,22,24mm should be good.

Awesome. Yeah I've bought a couple deep sockets as I've needed them but I should probably just pony up for a set. Kinda tough right now since I'm in grad school but I'll be done and working again come April so hopefully I will be doing more modding and wrenching. Thanks for the help!

This is the set I have:

I feel your pain though - this semester will hopefully be my last after 9 straight years in school. Lol

Added to my watchlist. 9?! Ouch. Took ~5 years off after my undergrad and it has been hard to go back. Luckily it's only a 18 month program. Good luck man! I'm told this school thing will all be worth it....

Thanks brother. Yeah I can't wait to only have to worry about work when it comes to taking time away from wrenching on my truck lol. 18 months should be done before you know it - probably because you won't have any free time to think about what's going on in your life lol!

Pshh, bought a 2002 4x4 Tacoma wrecked for $500 spent about a week putting a new front clip on for another $500. And there you go, new truck and 4x4 for less than $1500

How can you get an engine to start without the transmission connected, could you bolt up the starter without the trans connected? Talking about a 3.4. I just want to see it run before I go any further. No accessories are bolted on - no coolant - just want to fire her up momentarily and then proceed.

TBF, I don’t spend too much time on TW outside of this thread but the group in here has always been helpful when/if I have questions...even though I’m sure a couple of them have been dumb noob questions I’ve always received helpful non-dickish responses.

I agree, the 1st gen guys are way more helpful. The gen not to be mentioned is basically just a tard fest
