Hey there is a much shorter front end on the Ridgeline. That’s the answer right there, trade in for a Ridgeline.

Seriously though if Honda can do it, seems Toyota should be able to shorten the nose if they wanted.

I’m not really interested in it, seems OP and others think the nose is too long and it was decided it is for crumple zones. Seems it is possible to design a truck with crumple zones and a short nose. I’m not sure a face lift would work or if it would need a full redesign, but that pic proves it is possible to design crumple zones on a truck with a short hood.

There is a good sized crumple zone on the Ridgeline as well. I believe the transverse mounted engine on the Honda allows for a compact front end. Totally different powertrain configuration compared to the Tacoma

The Ridgeline has a transverse-mounted engine.

Is there no crumple zone on the 2nd gens? They don't have buck teeth and a giant honker of a nose that sticks out unusually far past the wheel wells?

I doubt the extension had much to do with the crumple zone. Probably just a looks thing. It looks like the 3rd gen has slightly better safety ratings than the 2nd, but the front impact is the same.

I'm very shallow and am only concerned with the front end.

Toyota’s typical MO is a facelift at model year 3-4.
It took them 7 years to do a refresh on the last one.

That said, I don’t think they can go without adding a LED upgrade very much longer, based on that they have it on most of their lower models, and just added it to the tundra and sequoia.
That was jut a retrofit becuse both of those vehicles are at the end of their production cycle.
They are already out of runway with the upgrades after the power slider and leather the last couple years.
It’s logical to think LED is next, and when they do it, they will probably refresh the front end.

Don't let him hi-jack my thread. I have no problem with the power bands. It's the beak, the nose, the schnozzz.

It's the gal you took home from the bar after four shots of patron. You thought you could make it work and then you sobered up and woke up and.........nope.

I think the front end looks good. probably one of the big reasons i got the truck. looks aggressive to me.

I think it’s mostly because of the “cache” the Hilux name carries. If it was called something else, I doubt there would be as much interest.

Hm. I’ve only heard praises for its aggressive look. It looks like a mean ass war pig or a sloth...an IRATE sloth...depending on moods I suppose. It’s a midsize, but out of all the standard trucks, full size or not, its the only truck in a conversation ( conversations I have local to me) that everyone agrees looks great.

I like the Tacoma looks, but will also throw Ford a bone. They also make good looking trucks. Not as inspiring to me to actually own one, but eye-pleasing nonetheless. If they were not so completely common, and you were the only guy with one, you’d get lots of compliments on an F150.

Those were fucking atrocious, and still are. The reason I was so stoked on this third gen was because finally we got some redemption in the body dept, more than enough to make up for that abortion of a fender and overall forgettable styling of the second gen. In my heart of hearts, it’s 1st gen. And 3rd gen.
