since we are in winter season and talking about chains now and I know I want to go out a snow bash a couple times this year. were does everyone get there tire chains if I decided I wanted to get some? trying to figure out what size I need for 285/75/16 not finding much info that's clearly marked.

I can't even count the number of out of state license plates I passed heading out to moab this weekend. And I was towing a trailer.

Maybe it’s more the driver than the tires? :boink: :crapstorm:

Were they the new "defender" ltx?
Ive seen a couple reviews from people who loved the ltx and said the defenders were a disappointment.
I've also heard that sometimes oem tires are not the same as aftermarket with the same model name. :notsure:

I was down in the hood, figured I'd do it rather than another trip to the nasty front range. Three times in two months is too much.

    Thems fighting words.

Dunno... But they slipped much quicker than i was used to. Sure they are fine for most but I'd rather have something i can trust. And I'll be doing half the mileage on dirt. Those mall tires looked ready to be sliced. Clearly i haven't tested them much but for my driving conditions I tend to be safe than sorry.

But some people like running stock items way past their useful life... Like brake pads for 150k. :D

I'm pretty sure that factors into things much more than most people are willing to admit.

I also think it's pretty hard to objectively evaluate tires without a second set to swap and use in the exact same conditions.

Friday or Saturday when it had snowed on warm pavement and was really icy, I was not very impressed with the coopers. The last couple of days though when it's been below freezing and the snow is good and crunchy they've been great.

You're probably in a good position right now to try your new tires on the same hill you were talking about.

Probably the least subjective test I've had an opportunity to make was when I had to swap to a spare in Moab and it was readily apparent which tire was always breaking loose.

Its funny to hear you say this because I was thinking after your previous comments on the Coopers that I bet you were on more ice then snow. Your Michelin's I am sure kicked ass on ice since they look a lot more like Blizzak snow tires for passenger cars. Blizzaks were awesome on my last car on the ice.

I have also noticed a difference in how the Coopers are between different trucks. I put them on the wife's new 4r as well and I can say it handles even better with them since the 4r has more weight out back then my truck right now. Plus ATRAC is really nice. I don't have that in my truck but its handy in the 4r.

I think you are right to an extent. My dad has been running those tires since he bought his 3rd gen 4Runner. We're on the 3rd set now and each has lasted around 65,000mi. In high school before I got my Tacoma I drove that truck a lot and the tires always held their own, despite the fact they're not as aggressive as Duratracs or comparable AT's. That said, I got Duratracs when I bought my truck after I graduated and will say they are a bit better tire in my experience, but I will also say the Michelin's were never bad by any means.
