2018 Tacoma reviews and feedback

Per Canadian order guide, all models (manual and automatic) have Hill-start assist control (HAC), EXCEPT TRD Off-road 4x4 Access Cab V6 6MT. Not sure if it is the same in the USA.

 

The Off Road and Pro use a different style Brake Booster, that' why no Hill Holder.

 

Maybe I’m not seeing the build site right, but I don’t think any of the 2018’s have hill assist any more. I don’t really care, it’s just curious what car manufacturers omit sometimes.

 

Yes that is correct... i got my 2018 last month,, there is no hill assist

 

Love my 18 trd or manual trans. Had a 17 auto prior. 600 mile one way trip to see family for the holidays, just a hair over 1000 miles in the one week I've had it. Great truck!

 

Why did u keep the 2017 for only a year?

 

Are any of you 2018 owners experiencing the the "read diff howl" noted in several other posts?
I ask cause I'm considering a 2018 DCSB TRD OR

Traded my 2016 SR5 4X4 2.7L 4 cylinder for a 2017 4X4 TRD Sport v6 and am very happy so far.

 

Traded my 09 DCSB TRD Offroad for an 18 DCSB TRD Sport. Couldn't be happier. Loving the TSS - especially the adaptive cruise control! Getting about 5 more MPG than I was - same driving style. Push button start - never getting a keyed ignition again. Head unit is great - don't know why people are hatting on the Nav - its very snappy. I have had it glitch twice and put me about 40 miles from where I actually was but working great so far. I can load all my music (approx 3k songs) on to a USB stick and have it as a play choice on the head unit. No more antenna sticking up out of my fender. Great new tech screen on the dash. Like the hand e-brake vs the foot one. Do wish they would have added a charging port or cig lighter power to the rear area. NO MORE AXLE WRAP/BUMP/LUNGE thing!!!!! Absolutely hatted that on my 09. Oil changes will take an extra 10-15 minutes on the 18, but still easy.

 

hows that safety sense working out for everyone?

 

ive jad mine for little over a month now, 2018 trd sport, 2 wd, auto, short bed, no howling issues at all BUT ya that damn transmission issue doesnt seem to have been addressed by Toyota! erratic shifting, when i step on it theres a slight pause, and when slowing down to make a turn then accelerating theres a pause in between shifting, freckin annoying,, i did notice that using the “ECT Power” button does change the shifting to a more normal feel..im gonna wait till i take taco in for first service to get computer adjusted..
i previously had a 2006 and 2013 TRD 2 wd and i like that older style engine better

I'm pretty much on the same page, the OV tune is absolutely necessary, be it for the 2011 DCSB TRD OR or a new 2018 of the same flavor. From all I've read on TW, and the OV Tune website; I'm pretty confident I will be able to accomplish a flash or two on the 2011 late next month. If the OV tune has the noticeable improvements suggested, I might find my self very hard pressed to trade it for a 2018. The 2011 is in great shape and at 87,625, but does need new BFG AT T/A K02s.

Did the headlight change for 2018? The heights for 16-17 are bad... Like really bad headlights.. constantly checking the stalk to make sure it was on bad.

 

I see the 3rd gen finally got up to the 2nd gen.

 

If you look at the rear-diff howl thread, there is someone reporting the howl in a 2018 sport with 900 miles on it...

 

been driving my 2018 TRD Sport,2wd, for little over a month now,, no issues with howling, but i am having issues with shifting,, little sluggish 1st to 2nd when i step on it, its like computer is thinking for a split second bfore it shifts! i do notice that using the ECT Power helps a little,, i am going to wait till first service to adjust computer,, really like the TSS but not impressed with “ upgraded” JBL Sound system.. also hate the sound of new atkinson engine,, previously had 2006 and 2013 TRD Sports, i prefer those engines and tranny better

 

TRD Sport and SR manual trucks have hill assist.

 

Not sure why people dislike the sound of this engine. There is literally nothing wrong with the sound. If anything it sounds badass because the valve clatter makes the engine sound like a diesel.

 

For 2018 there is supposed to be no more Manual SR, so that just leaves that Sport for them to bother putting that Hill Assist on.

 

Just fine so far. The adaptive cruise is great. Certainly the highlight from the TSS addition.
