Sounds weird, but I had a deep hatred for those assymetrical fenders on the second gen. I would have bought one anyways, but am glad they got rid of that style choice on the 3rd Gen. The only vestige of the 2nd gen they kept, that I wish they had ditched, is those little angled notches in the lower back corner of the back windows on the 4-door.

I don’t think the big nose is so much for a crumple zone, as that is more of a frame/sheet metal deal anyway.

Most likely a pedestrian safety thing. Lots of plastic and empty space so when morons looking at their phones run down a family in the crosswalk the people have a chance to survive.

This. Or at least that’s what I read on the internet I think. And that irks me because they made the nose collapsible/structurally weak so it wouldn’t explode a person on impact. Ok. So the morons- a) the person who was texting or otherwise not paying attention to the road or b) the idiot who learned at an early age to look both ways before crossing because cars are fucking dangerous...STILL managed to fuck that up and NOT look... well they ruined it for us. Now cars have to be weakened so they can idiot proof a population that doesn’t have the ability to idiot proof itself. So what would normally be a ding against my front body bits is now a catastrophic event that would require extensive repair. Weakened because and for the sake of morons.

Pretty much. BUT there isn’t always a moron involved. Sometimes just an unfortunate situation where a car hits a person, and I for one would gladly have insurance pay to completely replace my front end. Hopefully not necessary tho lol

I doubt the design will change much. There is allot of work being done these days with pedestrian survive-ability in a front end collision. Taking new designs and running them through crash tests is very expensive.

If you wait for the next redesign, the nose will probably be longer.

Yeah, and both of them look like complete and utter garbage. "Edit" looks wise.

Part of the elevated front end and snout has to do with pedestrian safety, something about an elevated hoodline will result in fewer head injuries resulting in death. The pedestrian survives the impact flying over the hood, just crippled.

    Well, that is reassuring.

I guess for all the years they made the 2nd Gen trucks it was "fuck the pedestrian"?

Nope. If you look at a side by side comparison, the overall size and structure is pretty similar.
2nd gen has smaller grille, bigger lights and bigger bumper area.
3rd gen has bigger grille, smaller lights and a lower but protruding bumper.
Same shit (mostly) just different proportions

Pretty consistent with inflation, but since wages are stagnant yes more expensive for us average joes.

No. Applies to pretty much all, hence why all cars look basically the same.

Your not high. When the 3rd Gen was first debuted everyone hated the front end, now that some people have bought one of course they are going to defend the look, to justify their purchase.
