    Merry Christmas to my sister.
She wants to build it with an 11.5” barrel and pistol brace.

    going to be fun!
Well, I have shot them 4 times already (not this one) but rentals and a buddy who has one, take down and ease of cleaning is excellent it is a blow back operated so it will get dirty. Basically no tools required to do so. I personally didn't think the gains of a 9mm carbine was worth it but I was wrong. There is some performance gains over a handgun but not much. I looked at several Wilson Combat,Nordic Components,PSA and Colt all had there own pros and cons. The reason I settled with Sig in the ease of barrel swap is super easy and I will be going SBR/Suppressed soon.... Down side is mags are like $50 bucks each.

There is something satisfying about building your own. After the few that I've built so far, I can knock them out pretty quick. Last one was timed at 1:15 start to finish and assembled. It's not really cost-effective when you think about it, since stripped lowers can be had for $50-60 on sale (even less if you look for them), but holding something you built yourself is always fun.

You can't sell 80% lowers you completed yourself (unless you're a licensed firearms manufacturer). You can't even will them to your next of kin. They're yours until death. Kinda crazy, but if you decide to mention them in your will, you have to specify that you are passing on the lower parts kit, upper receiver and any and all accessories attached to the lower. Otherwise the whole thing has to be "destroyed" upon your demise.

You can sell them if you choose to, just can’t manufacture them with intent to sell.
Regardless these will be kept forever and the kids will have theirs for their lifetime I hope.

    This^^^^

On an unrelated note, I hate the BS that gets said at gun shops, heard today.
“Yeah, that’s a 50 BMG, if the round passes within 6” of you it rips your skin. They’re so deadly that we (I assume he’s talking about the military, because he’s just a dumbass with a man-bun) can’t use them against soft targets, it’s in human”.

Correct, however the presumption in law is that you need an FFL to manufacture firearms for sale to others. It would appear that you need to be able to prove that the personally made gun was for you and not someone else if the gun was later used in a crime or such.

I would add the required markings just to cover my ass if it was me.

Negative, burden of proof is on them, that’s where innocent until proven guilty comes into play.

Well, do you really want to put yourself through the asspain of dealing with the ATF as they drag you through the courts hoping the legal system works in your favor. Not to mention the cost of hiring a lawyer, time off of work, and so forth.

If your answer is yes than carry on.
