I am looking to modify my 2017 tacoma sport 4x4 access cab. Wondering what size lift and brand i should consider. I don’t want to lose handling or load/towing capacity. Also bumpers, winch, armor and possible chip. What are your recommendations to build the perfect tacoma? I will be doing moderate off road, mud snow and rocks. Not looking to go extreme. What do you suggest?

Welcome to Tacoma world! I respectfully suggest you spend a bit of time exploring this forum. There is no "perfect" or even a consensus on the best way to mod your truck as you described above. Actually, there are a thousand ways, and each is good, or bad, depending on your situation. Here are questions you need to ask yourself:
How much do I spend? You can spend a few hundred to 10K on a lift.
Am I going for look or functionality? Be truthful!
Am I willing to give up either on or off road performance? Right now, your stock truck is the best compromise between the two. Any mod is going to make one or the other better. Not both.
    Good luck!

Yeah, vague i know. Lol. I’m starting with a blank canvas here. If you could do whatever you wanted what would you do with it? I’m leaninf toward a 3-4” lift right now. I like the looks of a 6” lift but i worry i would lose handling, power and reliability.

I can afford to do whatever i want. I choose to be stock because this vehicle in stock form is at its most reliable and durable. It is also at its most efficient unless you are going to shed a bunch of weight. Its also at it best performance as far as braking and acceleration. Any mod you do will reduce one of the above.

Thank you. Great advice. I’m not going for looks. More functionality. Still want to be able to handle on the road and have clearance off road. This isn’t my first taco truck. All my others have been older. I just want to learn more about the new model.

I am definitely open to that. I’m thinking about taking off the lower plastic skirt on the front bumper and getting some meatier tires. I find that plastic skirt rubs on the ground while wheeling. Maybe some better skid plates. I’m really happy with the way the truck handles right now.

First and foremost, have fun with it! Just be advised what will happen with each mod. The two mods you mention will give you a big bang for your buck. Better approach angle (free) and better traction ( less than 1K) for a minimal penalty of maybe a half a mpg.
