Alright guys, here's my dilemma. I'm considering 2 different Tacomas, a Super White 17 Off Road with tech and premium package or an 18 TRD Pro in Cavalry Blue. The dealer has offered to install whatever aftermarket parts I want for only the cost of the parts. So, I priced out adding fox 2.5 coilovers in the front, uniball UCA, fox 2.0 performance series rear shocks, and KO2's to the Off Road which would put it at about the same price as the stock TRD Pro.

I love Cavalry Blue, and I think the TRD Pro will hold its value better, but it would be nice to just drive the truck off the lot with a good start to the build already done. I also like that the Pro already comes with leather seats, something that I would probably add to the OR within a few weeks.

I'm going to be using whatever I get for mostly overland stuff and some light crawling in Moab. I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys, I sold my FJ earlier this year and I've been itching to get back into a Toyota.

Sounds like you want the PRO, soon you'll be bombarded with members telling you "Why get the overrated pro when you can build the OR for the same amount of money but better." Your money your choice GL w/ your decision!

Not sure why you would want to do all that stuff to the OR, when the Pro is already ready to go?? Better re-sale too, if that matters.

Yeah, that's where I'm getting hung up. I like a lot of the features of the Pro, but I know I'll eventually want to swap out the suspension, and I understand that that would cancel out one of the major selling points of the Pro

Mostly because even with the Pro I think I would want to eventually lift it, so it might be more economical to build an OR.

Why lift the Pro? Are you really that hard core with the off-road stuff, or just into the Cool Bro factor??

    Just curious.

I wouldn't say I'm "hard-core" with the off road stuff, mostly because my group of friends are pretty intense when it comes to crawling (3 have nicely built 1st gen 4runners, fully locked, solid axle, etc). My FJ could keep up with them on a lot of trails, even in Moab, but it was locked, 3" lift, steel bumpers, amongst other things. When I had my FJ we would go wheeling probably 3 weekends out of the month, and we'd usually end up using my winch or maxtrax to get out of something at some point. I might be able to make it to the same places with a stock TRD Pro, which is what I would try to do first. I just have a feeling that it wouldn't stay stock for long because none of my vehicles tend to, haha.

If you ended up doing that you can easily sell the stock Pro suspension

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. What do those go for?

I actually like the look of the 4Runner better, but I want the utility of a truck bed

If building is something you are not scared of, then Id get the OR. The price difference to get the Pro isn't really worth it when you consider getting a better aftermarket suspension. And now that the Cement is available on the 18' OR there definitely isn't a reason to get the Pro unless you want the fake hood scoop. But if you want plug n play, then get the Pro. I doubt you will get many takers for the Pro stock suspension if you swap it out down the road because the Sport and OR guys can get a better suspension for not much more.

It usually depends on how used the shocks are

I've seen plenty of people interested in them.

The hood scoop is another small thing that I like personally, now that I think of it. I actually really dislike how Tacomas look w/o a scoop. That alone definitely is not even close to being the deal maker or breaker for the Pro, but it's another small thing.

Way TOO SOFT for my liking. I'm driving a truck not a Dadylack.
