I'm getting one more chance for 2017. Sat. if the river is not froze solid. Gonna be iffy.

    Otherwise, yeah for 2018.

    Merry Xmas

    I know. Its quite nice.

It will be bank fishing for the steel head, but its still fly fishing.

I don't expect anyone to be out on the boardwalk so I should have plenty of room to fish. I just wish I knew someone that could view the river for me ahead of time. I don't want to make the 100 mile trip to find that I need to go fishing somewhere else.

Fishing partner was in from charleston this weekend. Took the evening off from hunting yesterday to hit the creek for the first time in about 3 months. Nothing huge

Anyone from VA? I brought my gear to Williamsburg in hopes of escaping one day this week to fish. Thought about Shenandoah but if I can stay close to williamsburg/yorktown/jamestown that would be better so I don't get in too much trouble for not doing family stuff

Anyone wax waterproof their canvas bags or jackets?

I've been looking at the homemade version of the Filson "tin cloth" waterproofing recipes.

I have a favorite cotton fishing jacket that is not waterproof or windproof, but comfortable as all get out.

I want to do this to it, but am afraid I'll screw it up.

I'm partial to vintage bamboo flyrods. Just something about having an oldtimer that somebody cared for and keeping it in use. My go-to fly is a black beetle. Trout seem to be very interested in them when they're picky about other things.

I myself bought a rod vault from denver Outfitters. No big rush even though it got delayed til March. Figure I could drive out to CO and make a camp/trail trip out of it. I looked at then trestle one but for the same price the Rod Vault holds 3 so I was sold

Always wanted to fly fish. Know nothing about it but it looks like something I would want to try. Decided to take a free 3 hour intro to fly fishing class at Bass Pro a few weeks ago. Talk about mental overload! Class seemed like a big commercial to sell you piles of equipment you might or might not need. The list was nuts. Class had me totally turned off after an hour in. My interest would be small stream trout fishing only. Still interested but won’t do Bass Pro again. Maybe buy a kit & watch some videos instead.

Try here for a casting lesson. No gear pushing at all. A good lesson or two is invaluable.
