Sounds like you just don't have a refined pallat :p I absolutely love the pine, earthy, and bitterness of West Coast IPA. But to each his own. I enjoy the NE styles from time to time but there was a point in time not too long ago that the ONLY IPAs everywhere were hazy and I was just so over it. I wanted nothing more than a crystally West Coast.

I do too. But If I see a hazy and a West Coast IPA both on the tap list, you can bet your ass I'm getting the west coast.

Nope. Their distribution is incredibly small. Likely the only way you'll see it outside of California is if someone goes and buys a few cases and drives em back.

This is what I love about craft beer. There is something for "almost" everyone to enjoy.

Not sure about this one. Strong on the coffee and vanilla, but has a strange sour aftertaste. Not bad, but I've definitely had better from these guys...

Ok. Couldn’t drink much due to the drive from SoCal to NorCal from hell...

I was only 9hrs into my 11 hour drive that should have only been 7hours.

I5 north had a big rig blocking all lanes :frusty:

I collected beer cans in the 70s and enjoy the history of beer styles and anything beer.

Yes as you elaborate, the beer that most American macro breweries make is based on a Czech style now broadly called pilsner. The water from Plzen and Budvar was very soft and conducive to a lighter colored beer and made with lager yeast. German brewers make a pilsner but just call it Pils.

Back to Budweiser, like many beer styles, the city of origin gives it the name. Budvar or Budweis became Budweiser, Plzen became Pilsner, Dortmund became Dortmunder, Berlin has Berliner Weisse, Augsburg gave Augsburger, PBR stole Andecher from Andech's monastic brewery.

The city of Aying has a brewery called Ayinger that we are all hopefully familiar with, someone in the US could have trademarked Ayinger and fought it out in court over the use of Ayinger as a name.

American Busch now AB-Inbev of Belgium has long fought and held US rights to sell a beer called Budweiser that is just a trademark and not recognized now in most European countries and rightfully owned in most markets by the original Budweiser from Budweis Czech Republic.

Other breweries in the US sold beer named Budweiser similar to the hundreds that call their beer a Pilsner, Dubois Brewery from Pennsylvania had one not that long ago that was pulled after Busch sued.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Here is a prohibition era Budweiser near beer from Du Bois, it clearly took Busch years to weed out the others that thought Budweiser was a generic name for a style, like Pilsner.

Miller Lite is hardly a fine Pilsner, but they bought that label from Peter Hand of Chicago in the early 70s.

The original, and the Miller version, the first incarnation used the same Lite font, it's all about marketing. Miller fought and finally lost it's battle to say Lite with any spelling was an infringement on it's trademark. They might have lost if Busch didn't decide they wanted light beer action also. Terrible times for beer.
