speakers or head unit?

What should I upgrade first to improve sound quality on my 2010 access cab? I don't have the JBL but I do have the 6 disc. I like the OEM look and finish of the factory radio but I hate how it sounds.

My old car had a pioneer deck and infinity speakers. I'm hoping to get better sound quality out of this new truck. What will improve my sound quality more? new head unit or new speakers?

Not sure about speakers because I haven't upgraded yet, but once I got a new HU, the sounds quality improved drastically

For sure HU. Get something with USB, Bluetooth & 4-5 volt preamp front, rear and subs for future upgradability.

 

I would check Crutchfield for deals and questions. They also got some people there that could recommend a set-up for you.

 

I did mine opposite. Replaced all the speakers, and put Raam Mat on all the doors. It dramatically improved the sound with the stock head unit.

I just recently replaced the headunit with an Eclipse AVN726e, has been a great HU so far.

I went speakers first because the factory speakers are like a refrigerator magnets rolled in newspaper. They are horrible. If you could only do one first I would go speakers, because a new head unit will crush the factory speakers...

 

Head Unit 1st. You can get some nice 6.5 components for the front and then some 2 or 3ways for the rear.

 

Go with a headunit first, but remeber its more powerful so you CAN blow your stock speakers more easily

I just replaced my front speakers in my 2009 ac and the stock speakers were made out of cardboard. I still have the stock head unit but with the new alpine 6x9s it sounds alot better i think, but still isnt loud enough.

 

If you can only get one or the other, I would go with the head unit. Then save up for speakers to add later. If you go with the speakers, the stock head unit may not have enough juice to power them. In my experience, underpowered speakers do not sound good at all.

 

I say HU because of functionality. Aftermarket HU's really aren't any more powerful than the stock in our truck. But, they don't have the auto-eq function of the stock HU, so it is easier to blow the speakers with an aftermarket HU.

Personally, the additional flexibilty was what made me upgrade the HU first and speakers second.

 

I thought there is an amp that is separate from the head unit?? I replaced my speakers first and it sounds excellent on low volume only.

I just don't want to loose my steering wheel controls by replacing my head unit.
