I had speculated a while ago about there being a way to unlock the TRD Off-Road inclinometer features. Figure that out and you'd make a lot of people happy!

Anyways cool write up, I'm another one of the nerds on here that does this sort of stuff (as you can see by some of my tutorials in my signature)!

I haven't been brave enough to jump in and blaze the path for something like this just yet- though I do like the idea of TPMS giving me numbers instead of a dummy light, all the other stuff isn't really info I feel I would end up using a lot- I manage my Distance To Empty and mileage via trip computer, Instant mileage is basically a vacuum gauge with different numbers, and I'm a Utility package sucka who has no cruise.

I saw a picture of an SR5 cluster and it had all the same pages mine does. Definitely seems like something is either different, or not communicating properly, because I would expect all the pages to show up based on that.

So what do you think? I am going to pull the trigger on a trd off road cluster eventually to see how many pages and options I can get...

Do you really think the cluster is different from a 2.7 to a 3.5?? F@ck... that complicate things for me....

I'm not quite sure, to be honest. I looked up the part number for my current display after i posted that ...and it came up as the same as the SR5. We all know this is untrue, so I may be fine with one from a TRD manual after all.

I haven't looked to see if manual TRD requires a different display yet, but I will once I get back to a real computer.

I am going to do the swap but I definetly know sh.t about car electronics... I did fog, cruise control mods because that’s plug and play...

I will highly appreciate if you post your research here... I have a 2.7 auto..

Any info that you might find is greatly appreciated!! I’m going to wait until you do some research before buying the cluster... I’m not in a position to buy something and then not working...

    Thanks!!!!

That could be a potential problem. I have a 3.5 SR and I believe the SR5 and above only came in 3.5 so the wiring for the 2.7 is probably different. When I get back to work I'll look up the wiring diagrams and see what all may need to be done (if any) to make this work on the 2.7.

I really like this method for future wiring projects.

What type of heat gun do you recommend?

Amazon please, I have some gift cards I need to use. :)

Benzomatic ST500 is good for most and it's cheap. It's also a soldering iron and torch

That listing says it came off a 2.7 AT 83800-04J70, so same as for 3.5 ?

And then there is a 83800-04J90 for sale.

So many cluster numbers. What is the difference ? Some Canadian/American, Smart key entry, etc. ? Double cab, acces cab (picture for doors open ? ).

    83800-04F00-RP
    83800-04J70-RP
    83800-04J90-RP
    83800-04K00-RP
    83800-04K30-RP
    83800-04K90-RP
    83800-04L30-RP

TSB corrects the trip reset problem by swapping out the cluster.
    T-SB-0148-16
So you may be getting one of the swaps.

This one seems nice. Heat gun is nothing special. Plenty of different brands to choose from. Seems the standard is 1500w. I'd use the bent tip, like the one pictured to move that extremely hot temp around the splice. Some splices have a red dye that will disappear when the solder has melted completely.

I bought one from a trd off road and I have a 2.7... I didn’t asked for the specific model when I bought it so I’m kind of a guinea pig here.. if it works I’ll keep it if it doesn’t I’ll sell it or trade it..

What bothers me is the mileage reading... once you swap it you are going to bother the ecu and cluster mileage reading...

And forget about going to the dealer and trying to explain them that you swapped the cluster because you wanted... warranty voided for sure...

I already bought what I need and I am going to conect everything and see if it works before taking it for a spin..

What do you guys think about that?
How can the discrepancy between the cluster and ecu can be fixed without going to the dealer???

    .
    That's the big question/issue.

Wonder if you put it in to test without moving, and then put the old one back in when finished would anything change ? You moved 0 miles.

Then you could think of what the next step would be to do it right.

How can you take the old and new clusters to the dmv and have them put a sticker on the door with the difference in mileage as OP said ? The old cluster is going to be out of the truck with no power, thus you can't see the old mileage. How did they even know the old cluster came from that vehicle.

Someone in here must know the best/correct way to approach this.
Or dealer might be best bet but very $$$.

Well..I’m going to have to do that... if it does not work and my sr cluster starts from zero I am going to call my dealer and tell them that I had to remove the cluster to polish the plastic cover that was really scratched and have it re set to the correct miles...

If I do the swap and it works, I am going to have to see how can I reset the new cluster to my actual miles...

The mileage display is what bothers me... how do you explain that you upgraded your cluster to the dealer? They are going to make a big deal of It and try to void my warranty for sure... thing that I don’t want...

It would be perfect that the cluster itself adjust the mileage automatically but the threat OP already said that it does not happen...

I guess is going to be trial and error... I don’t care trying... at the very end is my truck, I do the maintenance and I am going to leave proof (pictures and video) of the cluster swap in case of something happen...

If you know how to reset the cluster please let me know...

Im on vacation right now... I’ll try it next week....
